Queen Elizabeth is best known for having a stiff upper lip. She’s not also one to talk about her personal struggles. As the monarch, the queen makes it a point to attend her royal duties and engagements. And she has also been serving the United Kingdom for almost 70 years since her coronation.

Earlier this year, the queen released a statement following Prince Philip’s death. Even though Her Majesty was heartbroken following her husband’s passing, she was never seen crying or becoming emotional in public.

In fact, after mourning for a couple of days, the queen went back to her virtual meetings and acted as though she’s not grieving.

Queen Elizabeth Struggling While Planning Her First Christmas Without Prince Philip

Woman’s Day, in its Dec. 20 issue, claimed that it was only recently that Queen Elizabeth told the royal family that she’s struggling following Prince Philip’s death. And the fact that this would be her first Christmas in 70 years without the Duke of Edinburgh is not helping.

Prince Philip had been staying at Sandringham for months before he passed away. And the royal family will gather at the queen’s estate over the holidays. So, the queen couldn’t allegedly help but feel heartbroken.

“Toward the end of Prince Philip’s life, they whiled away countless hours together on Sandringham estate, where he took to living in a small hunter’s lodge away from the main property. It was a precious time for her when they sat together on his porch under blankets and looked back on all they had created together,” the unnamed source said.

Queen Elizabeth Not Excited To Return To Sandringham

The queen is, allegedly, torn over returning to Sandringham because it will surely bring back memories of her late husband. And the last thing that the royals want is for the queen to break down in tears on Christmas Day.

“The queen is not an outwardly emotional person but she has confessed that this Christmas feels a little different without her husband. Philip’s banter and cheeky quips will be missed by the whole family, but especially for the queen. However, she is determined to continue her tradition of hosting the family – especially given they couldn’t make it last year because of the pandemic – and plans on making it the best celebration yet, just as Philip would have wanted her to,” the unnamed source claimed.

Before the royals arrive at Sandringham, the queen already gave them an instruction not to enter Prince Philip’s room out of respect for the late royal. Her Majesty also expects that the senior royals would tell their children not to open the doors to their great-grandfather’s bedroom.

Even though there’s a possibility for the royal family’s Christmas to be a sad and emotional reunion for the queen, her loved ones are doing everything that they can to support her.

Princess Anne, Sophie, Countess Of Wessex Leading The Preparations

Out of all the royals, Princess Anne and Sophie, Countess of Wessex are allegedly helping the monarch with the preparations.

“The queen is surrounded by some very lovely people who are there to help her every step of the way, and to ensure it will be a Christmas that creates precious memories for everyone and is a comfort to the queen after losing her husband,” the unnamed source concluded.

Queen Elizabeth’s Royal Christmas Will Be Different This Year

According to the Daily Mail, the queen and the royal family are gearing for a new normal when it comes to their holiday celebration. Instead of celebrating the beginning of the Christmas season at Buckingham Palace, the queen will be at Windsor Castle, where she’s currently staying.

It won’t be a normal Christmas. But like many families around the country, it will be as normal as it could get,” a source said.

According to Us Weekly, the queen is excited to reunite with the Cambridges for the holidays.

“The Cambridges are spending Christmas with the Queen at Sandringham. It’s going to be a big family affair. George, Charlotte, and Louis are absolutely delighted to be seeing their great grandmother in person again,” a source said.

While it is true that the queen must be feeling emotional because it would be her first Christmas without Prince Philip, she won’t be alone because her loved ones will be with her.
