Queen Elizabeth II has dedicated her whole life to the British monarchy. Due to her recent health scare, there were rumors if she would abdicate and make way for her son, Prince Charles. However, that is unlikely to happen because the monarch has plans to step down unless she can no longer carry the job.
Queen Elizabeth Will Never Abdicate The Throne Unless Her Health Conditions Stop Her From Doing Her Job
Queen Elizabeth II is still very active in her royal duties despite her age. The 95-year-old continues to carry various engagements for the firm. However, in October, her doctors advised her to slow down, forcing her to stay overnight in a hospital and canceling her engagement to Northern Ireland.
Although the Queen is aging and many are concerned about her health, she has no plans to ever slow down, all the more stop, when it comes to serving the monarchy. In her first public speech after she took over the throne, the Queen was only 21 years old when she dedicated, "my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service," ABC.net.au reported.
She reiterated the same promise on her Coronation Day six years which only meant that she meant the words she said when it came to her dedication to the monarchy.
"I have in sincerity pledged myself to your service, as so many of you are pledged to mine. Throughout all my life and with all my heart, I shall strive to be worthy of your trust," the Queen said.
The outlet also noted that Her Majesty told her cousin Margaret Rhodes that she would never abdicate "unless I get Alzheimer's or have a stroke." The Queen also reportedly told the former archbishop of Canterbury, George Cary that, "I'm going to carry on to the end."
Queen Elizabeth Should Be Encouraged To Step Back
While the Queen is so determined to serve the monarchy, some believe that she should slow down. Many agreed that the Queen does not feel old. However, her body could no longer keep up with her head.
Angela Levin, author of Harry: A Biography of a Prince, spoke with talkRADIO, and encouraged the members of the royal to advise the Queen to step back.
"It's a very big statement that we've got to sort of encourage her to take a step back or sideways or something and to allow her body to recover from the engagement that she does," Levin explained.
"I think that it's a fight between her head and her body because she wants to do it, she feels she can. She is very articulate. She's absolutely spot on with everything she says, but her body is 95-year old."
