King Charles' wife will also be crowned alongside him on May 6, 2023, at Westminster Abbey, London. There are suggestions for Camilla to wear the crown specially made for Queen Mother for King George VI's coronation in 1937.

It was initially acquired by the then-East India Company and brought to Britain, where it ended up as part of Queen Victoria's collection. It is also subject to ownership claims in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

"The coronation of Camilla and the use of the crown jewel Koh-i-Nûr brings back painful memories of the colonial past," a source speaking for the Bharatiya Janata Party told The Telegraph.

"Most Indians have very little memory of the oppressive past. Five to six generations of Indians suffered under multiple foreign rules for over five centuries," the source said. "The coronation of the new Queen Camilla and the use of the Koh-i-Nûr do transport a few Indians back to the days of the British Empire in India."
