King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla had an affair while they were still married to their first spouses and her husband's treatment of her contributed to the illicit relationship, a new report claimed.

Queen Consort Camilla Left Feeling Crushed And Unwanted In Her First Marriage?

The queen consort was married to Andrew Parker-Bowles in 1973. They met in the late 1960s and dated on and off for several years before tying the knot.

Her husband had ties with the royal family. His parents were reportedly friends with the Queen Mother. Andrew also served as a page during Queen Elizabeth II's coronation.

Camilla was "passionately in love with the raffish Parker Bowles." However, he was allegedly unfaithful in their marriage, prompting her to seek acceptance outside their marriage, leading her back to King Charles.

"Contrary to the public perception of Camilla as a marriage-wrecker, it was her husband who began having affairs," journalist Petronella Wyatt, daughter of the late Lord Wyatt, told Express. His infidelities "left [Camilla] feeling crushed and unwanted," so she sought solace "in a man who needed her more," she added.

The man happened to be King Charles. They allegedly reconnected ahead of his marriage to Princess Diana.

King Charles And Queen Consort Camilla's Alleged Affair Revisited

In Princess Diana's infamous Panorama interview, she blamed King Charles' affair with Camilla as the reason behind their broken marriage.

"There were three of us in this marriage," Prince William and Prince Harry's mother said.

Princess Diana reportedly learned about the deep connection between her husband and Camilla two weeks before their royal wedding. In Andrew Morton's book Diana: Her True Story, In Her Own Words, the late Princess of Wales recounted finding out an engraved bracelet bearing the initials "F" and "G," referencing their nicknames for one another, Fred and Gladys, Showbiz Cheatsheet reported.

Shortly after their marriage, Princess Diana discovered that King Charles kept photos of Camilla with him.

"On our honeymoon, for instance, we were opening our diaries to discuss various things," Princess Diana said. "Out comes two pictures of Camilla."

In King Charles' interview with Jonathan Dimbleby in 1994, he said he remained faithful to his marriage to Princess Diana "until it became irretrievably broken down."

Princess Diana and King Charles split in 1992 and finalized their divorce in 1996. Camilla and Andrew divorced in 1995.

King Charles and Camilla went public with their relationship in 1999, years after Princess Diana died in a 1997 car crash in Paris. The new monarch and Queen Consort Camilla married in 2005.
