Nicholas Galitzine as Luke

Purple Hearts is led by stars who are familiar with the young adult film genre.

Sofi Carson will play Cassie, a musician facing life challenges who finds herself unable to cope with medical bills. Carson has played memorable characters in movies like Netflix’s Feel the Beat and Songbird. She also starred in the Pretty Little Liars spin-off series called Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists.

Nicholas Galitzine stars opposite Carson as Luke, a soldier in the marines who enters a marriage of convenience with Cassie. Galitzine will play Prince Henry in the film adaptation of the romance novel Red, White, and Royal Blue. One of his most remarkable roles would perhaps be as Prince Robert in Amazon Prime’s own iteration of the class Cinderella.

The other actors joining the cast so far are Breana Raquel as Riley, Kendal Chappel as Mila, and Sarah Rich as Hailey. We will also see more actors joining the movie, including Nicholas Duvernay, who will play Armando, and Kaitlin Huwe as Kylie.

More actors will join the Purple Hearts cast, though we are still waiting for more information about their characters. The cast includes Linden Ashby, Anthony Ippolito, John Harlan Kim, and Chosen Jacobs. It also includes Kat Cunning, Scott Deckert, Rand Guerrero, Josh Cruze, Leroy Edwards III, and Sean Berube.

Purple Hearts is based on the novel by Tess Wakefield, originally published on April 25, 2017. The script for the film was developed by Liz Garcia (who worked on the film, The Lifeguard) and Tony Award-nominee Kyle Jarrow (who worked on the television series Valor).

The film will be directed by medium.com/@yinfabrigas, a notable director who has worked on many hit TV shows like Pretty Little Liars, 90210, Dead to Me, and Hawaii Five-0.

The film is produced by Leslie Morgenstein and Alloy Entertainment in cooperation with Netflix.

Cassie and Luke

The official summary for Tess Wakefield’s novel read:

When a soldier with a troubled past and a struggling songwriter agrees to a marriage of convenience for the military benefits, neither expects much after saying “I do.” Then tragedy strikes, and the line between what’s real and what’s pretend begins to blur in this smart and surprising romance perfect for fans of Nicholas Sparks and Jojo Moyes.
Cassie Salazar and Luke Morrow couldn’t be more different. Sharp-witted Cassie works nights at a bar in Austin, Texas to make ends meet while pursuing her dream of becoming a singer/songwriter. Luke is an Army trainee, about to ship out for duty, who finds comfort in the unswerving discipline of service. But a chance encounter at Cassie’s bar changes the course of both their lives. Cassie is drowning in medical bills after being diagnosed with diabetes.
When she runs into her old friend Frankie, now enlisted in the Army, she proposes a deal: she’ll marry him in exchange for better medical insurance and they can split the increased paycheck that comes with having a “family.” When Frankie declines, his attractive but frustratingly intense friend Luke volunteers to marry Cassie instead. What she doesn’t know is that he has desperate reasons of his own to get married. In this unforgettable love story, Cassie and Luke must set aside their differences to make it look like a real marriage…unless, somewhere along the way, it becomes one.

If the Purple Hearts movie follows the same plot as the novel, we can expect a lot of drama that is punctured by the struggles of two people who are doing their best to sort through their own traumas. We are still waiting for new information about the official plot of the film, but Netflix released the official synopsis of the film. Read the synopsis here:

In spite of their many differences, Cassie, a struggling singer-songwriter, and Luke, a troubled marine, agree to marry solely for military benefits. But when tragedy strikes, the line between real and pretend begins to blur.

Purple Hearts Trailer: Is There a Trailer for Purple Hearts?

There is a sneak peek for Purple Hearts, and it was released by Netflix on June 22, 2022. We are still waiting if a full trailer will be released for the movie.

The sneak peek showed Luke, who was deployed, sitting in front of a computer inside a crowded office in the military camp base he was assigned at. He was in a video call with his wife Cassie, who played a new song she wrote, dedicated to all the American heroes fighting overseas for their country.

We hear Cassie sing and everybody clapping for her when she finishes.
