Princess Diana turned heads when she arrived at a charity event wearing a little black dress. It raised some eyebrows because it was too revealing for a royal wardrobe.
Many believed she broke the royal dress code by wearing what many dubbed as her "revenge dress." However, there are more things to know about the dress.
Princess Diana Wore The Little Black Dress Because She Just Changed Her Mind
Princess Diana wore a black off-the-shoulder mini dress to Vanity Fair's annual fundraising event for the Serpentine Gallery in London’s Hyde Park on June 29, 1994.
The dress broke the royal dress code as it featured a striking off-the-shoulder design that showed her cleavage. The chiffon dress was also form-fitting which highlighted her figure.
Many called the little black dress Princess Diana wore at a gala after Prince Charles' bombshell confession about having an affair her "revenge dress."
However, it was just a last-minute change for the royal. She was supposed to wear a dress from Valentino at the gala. However, she didn't like it when the fashion house made a premature release announced that she would wear one of their designs.
So, Princess Diana swapped her Valentino outfit with the Stambolian dress, which had been in her closet for three years already.
Princess Diana accessorized with a pearl choker necklace with sapphire and diamond brooch. She arrived with full confidence at the event.
"She wanted to look like a million dollars," her former stylist Anna Harvey explained. "And she did."
Princess Diana And Her Revenge Dress Story
Although Princess Diana had another reason she opted to wear the frock, the media speculated that she chose the wardrobe to take her revenge on Prince Charles.
Earlier that day, the Prince of Wales admitted he had been unfaithful to his wife, Princess Diana. Many took it as an admission of his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.
It was dubbed as "revenge dress" because the following day, the press talked about the princess' sexy mini dress over the future king's admission. Princess Diana dethroned her husband in the spotlight.
"The Thrilla He Left To Woo Camilla," a report from The Sun the following day read.
