Princess Diana tragically passed away in 1997 following a car accident in Paris.
At the time, sources said that the Princess of Wales was being tailed by the paparazzi because they wanted to take photos of her and her then-boyfriend, Dodi Al Fayed. The accident made it impossible for Princess Diana to say goodbye to her sons, but she reportedly made a touching gesture five days before her demise.
Princess Diana Record Tapes For Prince William, Prince Harry’s Future Wives
According to OK! Magazine UK (via Marie Claire), Princess Diana was so inspired by her interview with royal author Andrew Morton that she decided to record her voice. In her private tapes, the Princess of Wales allegedly left messages for Prince William and Prince Harry’s future wives.
Of course, Princess Diana didn’t have any idea who her sons would end up with. But even if this was the case, she already wanted to make sure that they would be guided accordingly when the time comes.
“As incredible as it seems, Diana knew she was going to die young. She was very attuned to the spirit world and psychic events. She told me she made the tapes for the day she wouldn’t be around to help guide her boys. That way, she could continue to be a part of their lives, even after she was gone. She thought it was quite clever—and loved the idea of being what she called ‘a nagging mum from beyond the grave.’ She found it quite amusing,” the source said.

Princess Diana Gives Kate Middleton Advice In Pre-Recorded Tapes
The source, who claimed to have heard Princess Diana’s voice on the tapes, described it as sincere.
“She was so sincere. You could hear it in her voice. She spoke straight from her heart. I remember bits of it quite well even after all this time. I was surprised she actually played it for me. And when it was done, we talked about the kind of girl William would marry. She thought his bride would be beautiful, smart, and independent. And, amazingly, she was right. Kate is all that and more,” the source said.
Princess Diana also, reportedly, had a message for Kate Middleton even though she didn’t realize that it was for the latter at the time. The late royal reportedly gave the Duchess of Cambridge advice on how her marriage to Prince William would survive, as well as tips on how she could navigate her royal life.
The Cambridges, Sussexes Have Been Honoring Princess Diana For Years
Even though Princess Diana never had the chance to meet her daughters-in-law, Middleton and Meghan Markle have been trying to honor her for years. In fact, they, together with their husbands, are also telling their children stories about their late grandmother.
Years ago, Prince William revealed that he always shares stories about his mom with Prince George and Princess Charlotte. Prince Louis hadn’t been born at the time but he’s most likely heard of stories about Princess Diana.
“It’s hard because obviously Catherine didn’t know her, so she cannot really provide that — that level of detail. So, I do [when] regularly putting George or Charlotte to bed, talk about her and just try and remind them that there are two grandmothers, there were two grandmothers in their lives, and so it’s important that they know who she was and that she existed,” Prince William said.
Three years ago, Prince Harry also honored Princess Diana on what would’ve been her 58th birthday.
“My mother, Princess Diana, was a role model to so many, without realizing the impact she would have on so many lives. You don’t have to be a princess or a public figure to be a role model. In fact, it’s equally valuable if you’re not because it’s more relatable,” he said (via Vanity Fair).
