King Charles III's coronation is just around the corner, and his eldest son, Prince William, will reportedly play an important part in the big event. Though there are no words yet on what role the Prince of Wales will have, it's reportedly something his younger brother, Prince Harry, is banned from doing.

Dr. George Gross, visiting research fellow in Theology at King's College London, believed Prince William would play a role that several members of the Firm had done in previous coronations. Hence, the heir to the throne may have an active role in King Charles' upcoming crowning.

Prince William's Role at King Charles' Coronation

The royal expert guessed there was no role in the traditional coronation service that Kate Middleton's husband needed to carry out.

"There's no formal role for the Prince of Wales, as there may have been a time where there was no Prince of Wales, as plenty of monarchs have been crowned without even being married and certainly without having children," he told Express.

However, with the news that the monarch has ditched the requirement that the dukes have to kneel before him and pay homage during the ceremony, the Duke of Cornwall may do this tradition alone.

"It was reported the homage by the dukes won't happen or will happen differently," he said. "And I think it's likely Prince William may well, as Prince of Wales, be the one person doing the homage, representing that part of the service."

The Changes in King Charles' Coronation

The Sunday Times reported that King Charles would make a few changes to the coronation to make it more modern and befit for the 21st century.

One major change that may happen is the removal of the monarch's male relatives who bear the title of duke to kneel in front of him and pledge their alliance.

Hence, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke of Gloucester, and the Duke of Kent will not have an active role in the service.

Allegedly, this has something to do with Prince Harry and Prince Andrew. Knowing these two dukes are non-working royals, they don't have to have an active role in the event.
