Royal commentator Phil Dampier spoke with New Idea to share his thoughts about Prince William and Middleton’s future royal titles. He said that the royal couple’s new titles won’t be discussed by courtiers now, but the official announcement will most likely be made after the queen dies.
“The public will be very happy for Kate to take on the title after Diana. She has never been more popular and she will most certainly be a worthy successor,” Dampier said.
The royal commentator added that the Prince and Princess of Wales titles will be very fitting for Prince William and Middleton. After all, they love Wales, and they also shared their first home in Anglesey years ago while the Duke of Cambridge was still working as a rescue pilot.
“They loved the seclusion, long walks on remote beaches, and starting a family with Prince George,” he said.
Kate Middleton’s New Royal Title Will Be Bittersweet For Prince William
However, the moment will also be very bittersweet for Prince William. After all, seeing his wife receive the Princess of Wales title will most likely bring back memories of his late mother.
“I’m sure it’ll be a bittersweet moment. This is [Diana’s] son and his wife, so in some ways, it will be coming full circle – but it will also be a poignant reminder of what we all lost,” a source told The Telegraph.

Discussions about Prince William and Middleton’s future royal title became rife once again after Queen Elizabeth voiced out her surprising wish last month.
In her Platinum Jubilee speech, the monarch said that she hopes Camilla Parker Bowles will be styled as queen consort when Prince Charles ascends the throne.
This request was quite surprising for royal fans because a spokesperson for Clarence House revealed twice that Camilla will be styled as a princess consort.

However, it also feels right for Camilla to be styled as queen consort instead because she has been a loyal supporter of Prince Charles.
“When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when the time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service,” the queen said in her letter.
The members of the royal family did not publicly comment on Camilla’s future royal title, but there are rumors that Prince William and Prince Harry were shocked to hear the queen’s request.
While speaking with Us Weekly, royal author Christopher Andersen said that the queen’s announcement must have brought back negative memories for the brothers. After all, they still remember the scandal that Prince Charles and Camilla were involved in years ago.
“It’s just whether or not they can get over this bad feeling. Then, of course, Queen Elizabeth III’s health and these other considerations are there. I don’t think it helped with the queen announcing that Duchess Camilla will be queen consort and that’s another issue,” he said.

Andersen also claimed that Prince William and Prince Harry were blindsided by the announcement. And they may also be upset with their dad because Prince Charles had reportedly been pushing for Camilla to receive this royal title.
“Charles just wore her down on this too. I also think that since the death of Prince Philip, Prince Charles has stepped up his effort to make it clear to the queen that he too needs [a partner]. If he’s going to reign, he’s going to need the support, the kind of support that she got from her husband,” Andersen said.
However, True Royalty TV executive producer Kerene Barefield told Fox News that the royal family is aware of Camilla’s future royal title. So, it’s not true that Prince William and Prince Harry were blindsided by the queen’s announcement.
