Netflix Allegedly Defying Prince William's Request About Princess Diana's Interview With Martin Bashir

Prince William wants Princess Diana's infamous Panorama interview with Martin Bashir to be buried. However, Netflix's The Crown is planning to dramatize the interview despite the Duke of Cambridge's plea, The Sun reported.

The streaming service is planning to air an episode focusing on the controversial interview. During the sit-down tell-all Princess Diana said her relationship with Prince Charles didn't work because "there were three of us in this marriage." The late Princess of Wales was implying Prince Charles' affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. According to an insider, the narrative fits in the show.

"To the writers, the stormy marriage between Charles and Di led up to her outpouring on Panorama, and the aftermath of that decision defined her final months," the source told the outlet. "They are making a huge investment in that. The Crown has a track record of delving into areas of the Royal Family's history they’d rather be left alone."

What Did Prince William Say About Princess Diana's Panorama Interview?

Prince William reacted after an independent investigation found out that then-BBC journalist Bashir "deceived and induced" Princess Diana to secure an interview. The Duke of Cambridge slammed the interview and even blamed it for "making my parents’ relationship worse." He also added that it hurt countless other people, ABC News reported.

Prince William said he was saddened that BBC failed to investigate the complaints and concerns first raised in 1995, his mother would have not been deceived. He added that his mom was failed by a rogue reporter and the leaders of the network who looked the other way around when Bashir asked Princess Diana those tough questions about her marriage. Kate Middleton's husband said BBC's failure let down his mother their family and the public.

"It is my firm view that this Panorama programme holds no legitimacy and should never be aired again," Prince William said. "It effectively established a false narrative which, for over a quarter of a century, has been commercialized by the BBC and others."

Prince Harry shared the same sentiment as his big brother. He was convinced that the controversial interview had some contribution to Princess Diana's death.

"Our mother was an incredible woman who dedicated her life to service. She was resilient, brave, and unquestionably honest," he said. "The ripple effect of a culture of exploitation and unethical practices ultimately took her life."
