Prince William is next in line to the throne. However, the future of the monarchy is reportedly bleak after the attacks from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Prince William Unlikely To Become King After Prince Harry's Memoir Spare?

Graham Smith, an anti-monarchy activist and the spokesperson for Republic, told Express that there is "every possibility" that the Prince of Wales will never rise to the throne.

"The chances of George making it to the throne are even lower," he said. "We have ahead of us 100 years of fairly elderly men, as William is likely to be in his 60s when he becomes King and George well into his 60s."

YouGov's survey claims that the British monarchy's rating has taken a hit following the release of Prince Harry's memoir Spare, wherein he revealed his grievances about being a spare to Prince William.

British people expressing pride for the monarchy dropped from 55 percent to 43 percent in January. Smith added that there is a "lot of protest at Charles' coronation," "a lot of anger", and "the fact deference doesn't exist since the Queen is no longer there." Due to these, he predicted that Prince William might never be king.

"And we're going to see a lot of countries around the Commonwealth ditch the monarchy," he added.

"The notion that they will survive in the long term is increasingly unlikely."

British Royal Family Will Survive, Royal Commentator Says

Royal expert and commentator Richard Fitzwilliams acknowledged that the YouGov polls were "concerning." However, he also noted that the firm has gone through a lot of crises, and it stood firm in the last decades. So, the ratings and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's attacks in their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan and in his book Spare are not enough to end the monarchy.

"This statistic is concerning, though the current crisis is not unique," Fitzwilliams told Express. "The 1990s were a dreadful decade for the royal family, featuring the annus horribilis and Diana's tragic death, yet by the Golden Jubilee in 2002 the tide had turned and the royals regained popularity."

"That support for the senior members of the Royal Family remains high. It does to some extent depend on what the unpredictable Sussexes do next, but this decline in support is not likely to be long term."

What can you say about the future of the monarchy? Will Prince William eventually take over the throne, or will the monarchy end before his reign?
