Prince William and Queen Elizabeth had a very close relationship. At a young age, the Prince of Wales learned everything that he needed to learn about his future role as king from his grandmother, as well as King Charles. But despite everything that he has learned and experienced, Prince William still had fears about taking on the top job.
Prince William Had Regular Meetings With Queen Elizabeth
According to royal author Katie Nicholl, Prince William regularly met up with Queen Elizabeth for tea to discuss all his worries and concerns about his future role as king. And the monarch allowed her grandson to unload all his thoughts on her.
"The Queen [played] a very special dual role in William's life. She [was] his sovereign, but also a very loving grandmother who [wanted] to prepare him for the future. He would have one-on-one time with his grandmother to talk about whatever was on his mind. She was there for him to unload on – but those sessions were also an opportunity for her to mentor and teach him, as her grandfather, George V, did with her," she said (via Express).
Nicholl also revealed that Prince William and the queen grew incredibly close. And the former also had so much respect for the latter.

Prince William Doesn't Lay Down At Night Thinking Of His Future Role As King
Six years ago, Prince William also sat down for an interview to talk about his future role as king. He admitted that he doesn't like awake at night thinking of his role because the thought saddens him.
After all, being crowned king means that Queen Elizabeth and King Charles will no longer be around.
Prince William Has Become More Accepting Of His Destiny
But in recent years, it seems that Prince William eased into the idea that he is destined to be king no matter what. According to royal expert Jennie Bond, the dad of three has seemingly overcome his reluctance to become king.
"I think we did see a reluctance to take on the role earlier on, in his early adolescence, he knew his destiny as none of the rest of us do from such an early age. But in the last couple of years, he has shown convincingly that he is the man for the role and that he cares about being king. He absolutely fully accepts the role and the responsibility destiny has put his way," Bond said (via Yahoo! News).
Even Prince George is already set on Prince William becoming king one day. He reportedly told some of his classmates who were giving him a hard time to watch out because his dad will be king.
