There was allegedly a competition between Prince William, Kate Middleton, King Charles, and Camilla when it came to which pair would ascend the throne after Queen Elizabeth. However, the late monarch allegedly favored her son over her grandson.

Queen Elizabeth Favored King Charles And Camilla Over Prince William And Kate Middleton?

King Charles has prepared most of his life to ascend the throne. He took over the crown after Queen Elizabeth passed away on Sept. 8. However, according to Radar Online, the new Prince and Princess of Wales were also in serious talks with the late monarch about ascending the throne after her to reportedly revamp the royal image.

When the Queen showed her support for King Charles and Camilla by announcing that the latter would be queen consort, it reportedly didn't sit well with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Prince William and Kate Middleton allegedly felt blindsided by the Queen's announcement.

"William and Kate were completely blindsided by the queen's announcement in favor of Charles and Camilla," a royal insider told Radar Online.

"It didn't take long for Camilla to get wind of what was going on," another insider added.

King Charles took over after his mother's death. The new monarch is reportedly planning on making "massive changes" to the staff and it would be "much larger than anything seen in the last 70 years."

"King Charles wants to be his own man," a palace insider added. "He doesn't want his mother's staff telling him what his mother would do."

How Prince William And Kate Middleton React To Queen Making Camilla Queen Consort

On the day before the Queen's 70th anniversary of Accession, she released a statement where she announced Camilla's title when King Charles became king.

"And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service," the Queen said.

"And so as I look forward to continuing to serve you with all my heart, I hope this Jubilee will bring together families and friends, neighbours and communities – after some difficult times for so many of us – in order to enjoy the celebrations and to reflect on the positive developments in our day-to-day lives that have so happily coincided with my reign."

Despite Radar Online's report, Prince William reportedly approved of his stepmother.

"The duke is supportive" of his grandmother Queen Elizabeth's decision, Daily Mail reported. Kate Middleton's husband was reportedly not involved in the decision-making. However, he was "respectful" of the logic of the late Queen's decision.

Another source told Daily Mail that Prince William probably discussed the issue with his father and gave his blessings.

"None of this can have been easy for him," the source said. "There were huge family rows in the early stages of Charles and Camilla's marriage as everyone found their feet. William didn't have the best relationship with his father back then."

The tipster added, "But he sees that Camilla had made his father happy and it is something he has come to terms with."

The source added that Prince William and King Charles' relationship" is better than it has ever been." Although he is not close to his stepmother, the new Prince of Wales reportedly "gets on perfectly well" with Camilla and they are "quite the blended family now."

"He also respects his grandmother and her judgment more than anything in the world. If it is right for her, then it will be right for him," the tipster said.
