Prince William and Kate Middleton made a bold move against BBC after the network aired the controversial documentary The Princes And The Press. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge dropped the network from hosting Middleton's upcoming event.

Prince William And Kate Middleton Dropped BBC From Covering The Duchess' Christmas Carol

Kate Middleton is hosting a Christmas carol concert at the Westminster Abbey in the coming weeks. According to reports, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had an agreement with BBC to host the event. However, following the alleged row between the network and the royal family, they decided to drop BBC and work with ITV.

"This is a real coup for ITV. It is a brand new format — the royals have never hosted a televised TV concert before. And to have the Duchess leading on it is a big deal," a TV source said The Sun. "Naturally most royal programming goes automatically to the BBC as the national broadcaster. Now it looks like they will work more with ITV in the future."

The insider added that ITV was surprised but delighted to receive the exclusive coverage offer from the royal family. The tipster said it was initially arranged to be aired on BBC. However, the royal couple had a change of heart due to the "terrible row" following the debut of its two-part documentary The Princes And The Press.

"And things are likely to get a lot worse between the Royal Family and the BBC before they get better as the second part of the documentary threatens to go further," the insider added.

Prince William, Prince Charles, And Queen Elizabeth Vs. BBC

BBC's The Princes And The Press documentary examined Prince William and Prince Harry's relationship with the media. However, it seemed to favor the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. It even featured Meghan Markle's lawyer Jenny Afia, of Schillings, who defended her from allegations that she was a difficult boss.

Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, and Prince William joined forces to express their disappointment over the documentary. They released a joint statement shown at the end of the program.

"A free, responsible and open press is of vital importance to a healthy democracy," a statement from the palace read. "However, too often it is overblown and unfounded claims from unnamed sources that are presented as facts and it is disappointing when anyone, including the BBC, gives them credibility."

Meanwhile, BBC responded and stressed that the documentary was "about how royal journalism is done and features a range of journalists from broadcast and the newspaper industry."
