Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are seemingly ready to bury the hatchet with Prince William and Kate Middleton. The Sussexes reportedly invited the Cambridges to the first birthday celebration of their daughter, Lilibet, at Frogmore Cottage last week. However, Prince William and Middleton didn’t attend the private event.
Did Prince William, Kate Middleton Snub Prince Harry, Meghan Markle’s Olive Branch?
According to Page Six, Prince William and Kate Middleton rejected Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s olive branch because they are not ready to spend time with them. In fact, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis didn’t have the opportunity to bond with their cousins while Archie and Lilibet were in the United Kingdom.
A source told the publication that Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship is still frosty. And the former had concerns over reuniting with his younger brother because he thinks that Prince Harry could share details of their meeting with the press.
“Things are still fraught – William is still wary of spending any time alone with Harry as you never quite know what may be reported back afterward,” the source said (via Express).
However, it is important to note that Prince William and Middleton had a valid reason for skipping Lilibet’s first birthday celebration. Even before the party was held, a statement from Kensington Palace was already released announcing that the couple and their children won’t be attending Lilibet’s bash. After all, they were in Wales as part of the queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Prince William, Kate Middleton Attended A Royal Engagement During Lilibet’s Birthday Party
A source told Entertainment Tonight that the timing of Lilibet’s birthday party and Cambridge’s outing was pure coincidence. And it’s not true that Prince William and Middleton snubbed the Sussexes’ invitation.
And even though Prince William, Middleton, and their children didn’t make it to Lilibet’s party, the 1-year-old still had a blast. A source told The Sun that the guests had a picnic-style celebration complete with balloons, cake, and games.
“It was a lovely do and had everything you’d expect from a child’s birthday party. But there was no formal entertainment. The idea was for it to be very relaxed and casual, with people free to pop in and out as they wished. It was a nice opportunity for the other royal children to meet Lilibet for the first time. And as her first birthday is such a milestone, there were lots of discussions ahead of time about the presents that she would be given on the day. One idea that proved very popular was a £75 pink Volkswagen Beetle ride-on toy, which had been spotted in Selfridges,” the source said (via Cosmopolitan).
Some of Prince Harry’s relatives and friends reportedly attended Lilibet’s birthday party, like Zara Tindall, Mike Tindall, and their daughters, as well as Peter Phillips’ kids and the Duke of Sussex’s best friends, Charlie and Tom Van Straubenzee.
It’s unclear if Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, and Camilla Parker Bowles attended Lilibet’s birthday celebration. But they all greeted her publicly via their official Twitter accounts. Prince William and Middleton also gave Lilibet a birthday shoutout via their social media account.
