Prince Harry just moved to the United States two years ago, but it seems he has already picked up his wife Meghan Markle's American accent. When the Duchess of Sussex was still living in the United Kingdom, she was also seemingly heard with a British accent.

Prince Harry Would've Been An Asset To The Royal Family Because Of His Natural Ability To Talk To Children

While speaking with Express, body language expert, Judi James analyzed Prince Harry's gestures while speaking to the winners of the WellChild Awards this week. She said that the Duke of Sussex's natural ability to talk to children triggered feelings of regret because he's no longer working as a senior royal.

Prince Harry would've been an asset to The Firm, especially when it comes to the causes that are close to his heart.

"It's hard to watch Harry here and not regret the fact that he is no longer a member of the royal firm. He engages so well and shows empathy with the people he is talking to, as well as exposing his own emotions in a very natural way. He is especially good with the children, who he mirrors and mimics to create some very natural bonds with, and who he talks to directly and easily, rather than talking over them at their parents," she said.

Prince Harry's Accent Sounded A Bit More American During His Interview

James also pointed out how Prince Harry's accent has seemingly changed two years after moving to the United States. During his conversation with the awardees, James noticed the dad of two changing the pronunciation of "t" to "d."

For instance, instead of saying excited, James noticed that Prince Harry pronounced it as "excided." He also pronounced the word better as "bedder."

Babel experts previously talked about the changes in Prince Harry's accent since moving to the United States. They said that his British accent has taken a more laidback tone in the past two years.

"Since moving to the US, Harry's once traditional, the royal accent has taken on a more laidback tone, which, to some, might sound like an Americanization of his accent. However, it's more likely due to him dropping Received Pronunciation (RP), which is often the world's idea of the 'perfect' British accent, also referred to as the Queen's English. What we're seeing as Harry's 'new' accent is more commonly referred to as an 'Estuary English' accent, a well-spoken accent typical of London and the South East of England which is less rigid in its pronunciation than RP, but is still common amongst the upper class," they said (via Mirror UK).

Meghan Markle Also Adapted A British Accent While In The United Kingdom

When Markle was still working for the royal family, she was also heard speaking with a British accent.

In 2019, phonetics and pronunciation specialist Dr. Geoff Lindsey said that some of Markle's vowels sounded more British at the time.

Marisa Brook, assistant professor in linguistics at the University of Toronto, acknowledged that Markle developed a speaking style that makes her sound English-aristocratic while talking to people. However, this doesn't mean that she's a poser.

"She's developed a style to be used when directly talking with the British public. These are the situations where people might be judging her in public instantly, where it really benefits her to sound British and aristocratic. If it's conscious, I don't think it makes her manipulative, or a poser or anything. She's someone who's very off-beat from those who usually join the Royal Family - it makes a lot of sense. It's not that she is changing who she is," she said (via the BBC).
