Prince Harry spoke about how hard it was for him to stick with the royal family's "never complain, never explain" mantra as he recounted the cheating allegations against him in his memoir, Spare.

Prince Harry Recounted The Cheating Allegations In Spare

The Duke of Sussex said he was brokenhearted with the allegations that he cheated in school made headlines in tabloids. A board investigation cleared him, but he felt that it had already damaged him.

"I was accused of cheating. An art teacher came forward with evidence of cheating, which turned out not to be evidence of cheating," Prince Harry wrote in his memoir, Showbiz CheatSheet reported. "It turned out to be nothing at all, and I was later cleared by the exam board. But the damage was done."

Prince William's brother said the allegation stuck in him, and he couldn't do anything about it.

"Brokenhearted, I wanted to release a statement, hold a press conference, tell the world: I did the work! I didn't cheat! The palace wouldn't let me," Prince Harry shared.

"In this, as in most things, the palace stuck fast to the family motto: Never complain, never explain. Especially if the complainer was an eighteen-year-old boy. Thus I was forced to sit by and say nothing while the papers called me a cheat and a dummy every day."

Prince Harry Speaks Criticized Royal Family's Motto?

Meghan Markle's husband spoke about the royal family's motto in his previous interview with ITV's Tom Bradby. According to him, the motto "never complain, never explain" was just a motto.

"Well, there's been a motto, a family motto, of never complain, never explain," he said, as quoted by People.

"And what people have realized now through the Netflix documentary and numerous stories coming out over the years is that that was just a motto. There was a lot of complaining and there was a lot of explaining."

Prince Harry also talked about the same mantra in his interview with Anderson Cooper for 60 Minutes. He alleged that Buckingham Palace leaked stories.

"They will feed or have a conversation with the correspondent. And that correspondent will literally be spoon-fed information and write the story. And at the bottom of it they will say that they've reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment. But the whole story is Buckingham Palace commenting."

Prince Harry added, "So when we're being told for the last six years, 'We can't put a statement out to protect you,' but you do it for other members of the family… there becomes a point when silence is betrayal."
