Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly desperate to attend Prince Philip’s memorial service this coming spring. However, their plans might not push through after the Duke of Sussex filed a lawsuit against Britain’s security protection.
Prince Harry Criticized After Filing A Judicial Review Against The British Security
According to Newsweek, Prince Harry filed a judicial review of the Home Office decision to remove his police protection while he was in the United Kingdom even after he offered to pay the officers that would guard him using his own money.
However, Amber Melville-Brown, global head of reputation at Withers law firm, claimed that the judicial review just showed how entitled the Duke of Sussex really is.
“While the prodigal son is welcome in his home country, asking for the British police and security services to be served up to him as the fatted calf, even if he foots the bill, is not a great brand-building move. This legal action may give detractors yet further opportunity to attack Prince Harry for actions which draw negative media attention when the royal family least needs it,” Melville-Brown said.
Prince Harry Wants To Bring Archie, Lili To Prince Philip’s Memorial Service
According to Page Six, Prince Harry was hoping to bring Archie and Lilibet to the United Kingdom so that the latter could finally meet his family. It’s also been two years since the royal family last saw Archie, so he thinks that Prince Philip’s memorial service is the perfect time for everyone to reunite.
However, they are reportedly unable to return to Britain because it’s too dangerous. Prince Harry doesn’t have a security detail in the United Kingdom. And his security team from the United States doesn’t have any authority in the UK.
“If Harry goes, he will want to have security for him and his family. If and when he decides to go back to the UK, he needs security,” a source said.
Last weekend, sources close to Prince Harry revealed that he tried to petition the UK government to allow him to pay for his own police security, but his request was denied twice.
“As is widely known, others who have left public office and have an inherent threat risk receive police protection at no cost to them. During his last visit to the UK in July 2021… [Harry’s] security was compromised due to the absence of police protection, whilst leaving a charity event,” the statement read.
Charles Rae, the former royal editor at The Sun, acknowledged the fact that Prince Harry has a point.
“I doubt his own security from the States would be allowed to the inner sanctum of the Royal Family. That is a job that is done by the Met Police or Thames Valley Police,” he said.
But Dai Davies, the former head of royal protection, argued otherwise. He said that Prince Harry cannot pick and choose when he wants to visit Britain and receive protection.

Piers Morgan Calls Prince Harry A Hypocrite
Piers Morgan also lashed out at Prince Harry following his security lawsuit. The Good Morning Britain host called Markle’s husband a “shameless, deluded, woefully entitled hypocrite.”
“There was a wearisome inevitability that just when the Queen least needed her renegade royal grandson to pipe up whining again from his Californian mansion, he would do exactly that. The petulant prince is threatening legal action—is there ever a time when he isn't?—unless the Home Office caves and restores the royal security he enjoyed before his dramatic flounce to America,” Morgan wrote in a column for The Sun.
Morgan has been a vocal critic of Prince Harry and Markle. Every time the couple files a lawsuit, announces their new ventures, or makes public appearances, the British host is the first one to lash out at them publicly.
