Even though the Duke of Sussex previously said that he won’t return to the United Kingdom because he doesn’t feel safe there, royal fans still hoped that he would have a change of heart for the sake of his late grandfather. However, Prince Philip’s memorial service came and went but there was no sign of Prince Harry anywhere.
Prince Harry Didn’t Want To Reunite With Prince Andrew
Now, Matthew Wright told This Morning that it’s possible for Prince Andrew to have influenced Prince Harry’s decision to skip the memorial. After all, if the Duke of Sussex learned that the Duke of York would be escorting Queen Elizabeth to the somber event, all the more would he have wanted to avoid the gathering altogether.
“First time in two years and immediately everyone is going, 'Why wasn't he at Philip's memorial?' All I would say is if he knew Prince Andrew was going to walk his grandmother down the line, maybe that's why he didn't want to go to the memorial. All I would say is if he knew Prince Andrew was going to walk his grandmother down the line, maybe that's why he didn't want to go to the memorial,” Wright said (via Express).
Prince Harry Used His Security Issue As An Excuse To Skip Prince Philip’s Memorial
Prince Harry previously filed a lawsuit against British security after they refused to provide him with detail while he was in the United Kingdom. Meghan Markle’s husband claimed that he offered to pay for his own security service, but this was also rejected by the Home Office.
Without his security detail, Prince Harry said that he wouldn’t feel safe setting foot back in his hometown. And this is one of the reasons why he decided to skip Prince Philip’s memorial. However, royal experts slammed the dad of two over his decision. They claimed that the royal family would’ve been willing to provide Prince Harry with security while he was back home but he still opted to skip the memorial altogether.
Prince Harry Dubbed As Pathetic Over His Decision To Skip Grandfather’s Memorial
Former royal protection officer Richard Griffin branded Prince Harry pathetic following his controversial decision to skip the memorial.
“Prince Philip was their grandfather so William has obviously had great training from him and is going to learn examples from him. I just hope Harry gets some of these things in his mind. It [Harry not being here] was a big disappointment for everybody. People were talking about it. Certainly around where I was people were saying he should have been here. All this nonsense about how he couldn’t get protection, as far as I’m concerned was a pathetic excuse. He should’ve been here to honor his grandfather. At the end of the day, if he was that worried about security, he could’ve stuck with his brother and father who have got wonderful security and he would have been more than safe,” he told Daily Mail.
Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Attending The Invictus Games
To make things worse, Prince Harry was the only member of the royal family who did not attend Prince Philip’s memorial service. But he and his wife will head to The Hague to attend the Invictus Games.
According to Sky News, the sports event will take place from April 16 until April 22.
