Prince Harry Explains The Difference Between His Beard And Prince William's?
In Spare, Prince Harry revealed that he and Prince William got into a week-long argument over his facial hair. After all, Queen Elizabeth granted him permission not to shave his beard when he married Meghan Markle in 2018. On the other hand, Prince William was asked to shave his when he tied the knot with Kate Middleton in 2011.
While speaking with Tom Bradby for ITV, Prince Harry once again talked about his beard and explained the difference between him and his older brother.
"I mean, I refer to it as heir/spare but also older brother/younger brother, right? There's a—there's a level of competition there. And again, writing this, I remembered that William had a beard himself and that granny and other people were the ones who told him to shave it off. The difference for me, was, as I explained to my grandmother, that this beard, that I'm still wearing, felt to me at the time like the new Harry, as almost like a shield to my anxiety," he explained (via Business Insider).

Prince Harry Told Prince William That Meghan Markle Might Not Recognize Him If He Shaved Off His Beard?
Prince Harry also explained that he decided to grow his beard during a time when he was dealing with so much stress.
"I think William found it hard that other people told him to shave it off and yet here I was on my wedding day wearing a military uniform, no longer in the military but thinking as though I—believing as though I should shave it off before my wedding day. And I said, 'Well, I don't believe that Meghan's gonna recognize me if she comes up the aisle and sees me beardless,'" he said (via Cosmopolitan).
Prince Harry Alleges He And Prince William Grew Up Differently Because Of Their Roles As Heir And Spare?
Also, in Spare, Prince Harry drew several comparisons between himself and Prince William based on their roles as the heir and the spare. Being the latter meant that he was able to do some things that his older brother couldn't.
For instance, Prince William wasn't usually allowed to travel with King Charles via plane. After all, they are next to each other in the line of succession. So, if an accident takes place and they both pass away, the Order of Succession would be greatly affected.
As the future king of Britain, Prince William had to wed Kate Middleton first before he was able to bring her to the royal family's Christmas celebration in Sandringham in 2011.
On the contrary, the queen invited Markle to join the royal family on Christmas Day even before she and Prince Harry tied the knot. It is important to note, though, that Markle didn't have a family in the United Kingdom, unlike Middleton.
