In his book Spare, the Duke of Sussex detailed his reaction after learning that Middleton finally gave birth to Princess Charlotte in 2015. He said that he was thrilled to learn that there was a new addition to their growing family.
However, things took a turn for the worse after a reporter asked Prince Harry about being bumped further down the line of succession following the arrival of Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
“A journalist questioned me about it as though I’d received a terminal diagnosis. I thought: First of all, it’s a good thing to be farther from the center of a volcano. Second, what kind of monster would think of himself and his place in the line of succession at such a time, rather than welcoming a new life into the world?” he said (via Us Weekly).
Prince Harry Reveals King Charles’ Reaction To Meghan Markle’s First Pregnancy Warmed Him
Prince Harry also revealed how Prince William, Kate Middleton, and King Charles reacted when he told them that Meghan Markle was already pregnant with their first child.
According to the dad of two, King Charles gave him a huge smile, which warmed him up.
“Just before a drink reception for the bride and groom, we cornered Pa in his study. He was delighted to learn that he was going to be a grandfather for a fourth time; his wide smile warmed me,” Prince Harry wrote.
Prince William And Kate Middleton Were Both Thrilled To Learn That Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Were Expecting
According to Prince Harry, Prince William and Middleton also reacted to the news the way that he hoped they would.
“We were in a big room, suits of armor on the walls… [Prince William] smiled and said we must tell Kate. She also gave a big smile and hearty congratulations. They both reacted exactly as I hoped — as I’d wished,” he said.
Also, in Spare, Prince Harry revealed the exact moment he and Markle found out that they were pregnant. He said that he fell asleep and woke up to test pregnancy tests on his bedside table. And it was then that he found out that he was going to be a dad.
Prince Harry said that he felt Princess Diana’s presence while he and his wife were trying to conceive their first child. And Princess Diana was also with them when they found out that they were going to be first-time parents.
“Let’s see what Mummy can do with this situation. I thought: Thank you, Mummy,” he said.
