Prince Harry Claims The British Public Wanted To Parent Him And Prince William After Princess Diana’s Death?
During his interview on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Prince Harry revealed that he noticed a change in the attention that he was getting from the public after Princess Diana’s death.
Since he lost his mom when he was just 12 years old, Prince Harry felt that the public wanted to parent him during his teenage years, and the same also goes for Prince William.
“You know, Diana’s boys, let’s see how this turns out. I think there was a real sense of, in some parts, ownership and, some parts, parenthood by the British public — feeling as though they had to parent myself and my brother through our teenage years,” he said (via Scary Mommy).

Prince Harry also said that the public’s obsession with his life reached a whole new level yet again after Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot. After all, the public was able to breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that the future king would have someone to spend the rest of his life with.
On the other hand, Prince Harry was still single and was drinking and taking drugs regularly.
“Ohhh, what’s going to happen to the other one? I wonder. And then I’m falling out of clubs, I’m taking drugs, I’m drinking heavily, all of that. And that was a part of [my upbringing],” he said.

When Prince Harry left The Firm in 2020 and relocated to the United States months later, he admitted that he thought he and his wife would be able to enjoy some peace and quiet away from it all. But this is far from what the Duke of Sussex experienced.
“I never thought we’d be away from it completely, but I did think that we would get some form of peace. That’s when I realized that, actually, our mere existence outside of that institutional control was more of a threat. And a similar thing happened to my mom, as well,” he said.
Despite the negative criticisms that he and Markle continue to receive, Prince Harry and his wife are still carrying on with their personal lives away from the British royal family.
