Prince Harry Says He Didn't Give Princess Diana's Engagement To Prince William
The future king proposed to Kate Middleton after being together for nearly 10 years in 2010 with Princess Diana's sapphire blue engagement ring. According to previous reports, the item was among the things under Prince Harry's care after the late Princess of Wales passed away from a fatal car crash in Paris. He reportedly asked for the engagement ring when they were told to get an item from their late mother's personal items.
However, Meghan Markle's husband denied the claims in his memoir Spare. He ended the years of speculations that he handed the iconic blue sparkler to his big brother for his proposal to Middleton.
"None of it ever happened," Prince Harry wrote, per Showbiz CheatSheet.
"I never gave Willy that ring because it wasn't mine to give. He already had it. He'd asked for it after Mummy died, and I'd been more than happy to let it go."
He also denied the other claims about being involved in Prince William's proposal to Middleton. According to him, those reports were "news to me."
"Soon after we returned to Britain, the Palace announced that Willy was going to marry. News to me. All that time together in Lesotho, he'd never mentioned it," the Duke of Sussex added.
"The papers published florid stories about the moment I realized Willy and Kate were well matched and the moment I appreciated the depth of their love. Thus decided to gift Willy the ring I'd inherited from Mummy, the legendary sapphire, a tender moment between brothers, a bonding moment for all three of us, and absolute rubbish."
Princess Diana's Former Butler's Story About Her Engagement Ring
Paul Burrell, who served as Princess Diana's butler until she died, claimed that Prince Harry gave the ring to Prince William, so he could propose to Middleton in 2010. He shared the story in the three-part documentary The Diana Story.
When Princess Diana died, Burrell said King Charles allowed his two sons to select items from their mother's jewelry collection. He remembered Prince William asking for their mom's Cartier watch, which was a present she received from her father, John Spencer.

On the other hand, Prince Harry allegedly asked for their mom's engagement ring. He alleged that Prince Harry had strong memories of the much-talked engagement ring.
"I remember when I held mummy's hand when I was a small boy, and that ring always hurt me because it was so big," Burrell said, quoting Prince Harry.
However, it seemed that the real story from Prince Harry's perspective wasn't as sentimental.
