Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were previously rumored to attend the Oscars, but the couple decided to skip the awards show on Monday. If they attended the Oscars, the Duke of Sussex could've been at the center of a huge backlash. After all, he decided to skip Prince Philip's memorial service but could've accepted an invitation to attend the awards show.
Prince Harry Shouldn’t Accompany Meghan Markle To The Oscars?
During an interview on the Australian show, Sunrise, royal expert Angela Mollard said that it wouldn’t do Prince Harry any favors if he accompanies Meghan Markle to the awards show. After all, royal fans are already upset with him for skipping Prince Philip’s memorial service.
“There's a lot of talks it's going to go ahead but can you really turn up and stand on the stage at the Oscars and not turn up for your grandfather's memorial. I've got a problem with that. You do all the glory and handshaking with the celebrities but your own family,” Mollard said.
Presenter Kylie Gillies also questioned Prince Harry’s decision to skip his grandfather’s memorial service. She said that it would be best if the Duke of Sussex just leaves his wife for the Oscars.
Prince Harry Refuses To Return To Britain
However, it is important to note that the Oscars were held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. And Prince Philip’s memorial service will be held in Britain. Prince Harry has made it clear that he won’t return home until he gets his own security detail.
But this threat did not sit well with his critics, including royal commentator Matt de Groot, who called Prince Harry out of touch with reality.
“You look at a bloke who is out of touch with reality, it's that bloke right there. They spend one-half of their life talking about being determined to be private and being determined to stay away from the public eye. They spend the other half of their living selling their story to the highest bidder then he wants to step away from the Royal Family, then wants the royal protection, then he doesn't even realize you can go to the UK and hire your own security. If nothing else just buy your own security. Every move they make, every piece of advice they give, and every statement he makes publicly takes him further and further away from the guy that three years ago we thought was going to save the Royal Family,” de Groot said.

Prince Harry Reportedly Using His Issues With Security As An Excuse
Royal biographer Duncan Larcombe also weighed in on Prince Harry’s issue with British security in his column for Closer UK. He said that the Duke of Sussex could just be using this as an excuse not to set foot in the United Kingdom again.
“In my opinion, the security issue is a total excuse. Harry has returned to the UK since moving to the States, for Philip’s funeral, and for his late mother’s memorial service, and there hasn’t been a security threat. What more threat will there be in the UK than there will be in The Hague? I think he’s honestly probably more fearful of being booed by the British public and of facing his family,” Larcombe said.
Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Don’t Want To Cross Paths With Kristen Stewart
According to other sources, Prince Harry and Markle could skip the Oscars due to an entirely different reason. The couple doesn’t allegedly want to cross paths with Kristen Stewart, who played the role of Princess Diana in the movie, Spencer.
According to Cosmopolitan, Prince Harry wasn’t a fan of the movie and of Stewart’s portrayal of the Princess of Wales. So, attending the Oscars would be awkward for him and Markle.
