Prince Harry allegedly inflamed security fears by raising concerns that do not exist over his family's safety in the U.K. by asking to pay for his own police protection. Former Divisional Commander in the Metropolitan Police Service Dai Davies disagreed that the Duke of Sussex and his family are not safe in his home country.
Prince Harry Allegedly Inflamed A Lot Of Scenatiors That Do Not Exist
Davies spoke with Mirror about Prince Harry's most recent move. The Duke of Sussex released a statement saying he asked for judiciary review after the U.K. Home Office turned his offer to pay for his own police protection twice.
Prince William's younger brother wanted 24-hour protection for him and his family in the U.K. to ensure their safety. According to him, he wanted armed protection because his private security team could not replicate the service offered by Met in the U.K. However, the former head of Scotland Yard's royal protection doesn't really think Prince Harry is not safe in Britain, where he grew up. He added that if the Sussexes would need the police's service, they would still get it.
"A lot of these issues appear to be greatly inflamed by Harry and his advisers, it really doesn’t need to be so fraught," Davies was quoted by Express as saying. "If ever there was a proper credible threat to Prince Harry or his family, then the Met would take the appropriate action. If ever there was a proper credible threat to Prince Harry or his family, then the Met would take the appropriate action."
He continued, "I would argue robustly against his case that he is not safe in the UK. "If ever the British intelligence services did discover a threat to him and his family, they are hardly going to sit on it. It appears that Harry is creating scenarios that do not exist."
Prince Harry Not Entitled Police Protection
Although Prince Harry is willing to pay for police protection, he is not entitled to having it. They only cater to the members of the royal family who carry out their duties. When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to step down from their duties, they also gave up their privilege for police protection.
Also, police protection is not for hire. They do not cater to private citizens.
"You can’t just hire the services of Scotland Yard as and when you feel like it," Davies said when he spoke with Mail Online. "These are highly trained personal protection officers with access to sensitive intelligence, it is not like when football clubs pay for officers to be at football games."
