Prince Harry claimed in his book Spare that he wasn't really Prince William's best man during the latter's 2011 royal wedding to Kate Middleton. A new report claimed that he did the same when he married Meghan Markle in 2018.

Prince William Was The Public-Facing Best Man For Prince Harry, Meghan Markle's Wedding?

King Charles and Princess Diana's two sons had reportedly grown apart even before Markle joined the picture. Prince Harry claimed in his memoir that him being Prince William's best man was "all for show."

Another anonymous source claimed that the Duke of Sussex did the same on his big day.

"There have long been rumours in Harry's circle that there was another best man, in secret. William was the public-facing best man but not the sole best man, nor the true best man in Harry's eyes," an anonymous source told Daily Mail.

Prince Harry had several ushers on his big day, including his polo-player Jack Mann and Charlie van Straubenzee, the brother of Prince William's best friend, Thomas van Straubenzee. Some pals reportedly believed that there was an usher who acted like a best man, but they were surprised that Prince Harry didn't mention it in his book. Instead, he only confessed that he was Prince William's fake best man.

One pal claimed that Mann was Prince Harry's favored usher or "best man." The insider who attended a lunch with the duke even referred to Mann as Prince Harry's "deputy best man."

Mann appeared in the fourth episode of Prince Harry and Markle's Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan. Prince Harry and Mann became friends while they were at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. They were photographed among a group of men at his wedding when they partied at Frogmore House in Windsor Castle.

Prince Harry Claims He Wasn't Prince William's Best Man

In his book, Prince Harry claimed that he only acted as his big brother's best man, but he wasn't really the actual best man.

"Willy didn't want me giving a best man's speech," he wrote, Daily Mail reported.

When Prince William married Kate Middleton in 2011, Prince Harry was seen as the groom's official best man. He traveled with their father to Westminster Abbey in a Bentley that day.

However, Meghan Markle's husband claimed that it was "all for show" because his sibling's best men were his friends James Meade and Thomas van Straubenzee. They were reportedly the ones who gave the traditional speech at the reception.

Prince Harry also shared in his book how Prince William met people who had assembled on the Mall by Buckingham Palace while "tipsy on last night's rum" just hours before his wedding to Middleton.

"You smell of alcohol," Prince Harry reportedly told his big brother, before offering him mints. He reportedly lowered the windows of the car because he smelled "the aftermath of last night's rum" on his "tip" brother's breath.
