Prince Harry wrote a touching letter to the charity Scotty’s Little Soldiers this week. And the contents of his note reportedly revealed his suffering following the death of Princess Diana in 1997.

Scotty’s Little Soldiers is a charity dedicated to supporting children and youth whose parents died while serving the Armed Forces. In his letter, Prince Harry said that he shares a bond with the children at the charity because he also lost a parent at a young age.

Body Language Expert Analyzes Prince Harry’s Letter To Scotty’s Little Soldiers

After the release of his letter, body language expert Judi James told Express that Prince Harry gets triggered and remembers Princess Diana’s death every time he hears stories or encounters children who also lost their loved one.

“This very sweet-toned letter to children who have lost parents in conflict triggers Harry’s emotional responses to the loss of his mother and he is keen to let the children know that he shares their pain because he has also suffered. This is a commonly-used technique of empathy,” she said.

James added that Prince Harry evoked his own grief in the letter as his way of understanding the grief of the other children. But the dad of two also tried to boost the confidence of the kids.

“The Duke of Sussex clearly seems to find it easier to understand the grief of children who have lost parents on the battlefield and to reach out to them verbally by evoking his own grief at the loss of his mother,” she said.

What Did Prince Harry Say In His Letter?

Several publications also dubbed Prince Harry’s letter as emotional.

“We share a bond even without ever meeting one another because we share in having lost a parent. I know first-hand the pain and grief that comes with loss and want you to know that you are not alone. While difficult feelings will come up today as we pay tribute to heroes like your mum and dad, I hope you can find comfort and strength in knowing that their love for you lives and shines on,” Prince Harry said (via Entertainment Tonight).

Meghan Markle’s husband also encouraged the grieving children to turn to their friends at the charity for comfort and support.

“Whenever you need a reminder of this, I encourage you to lean into your friends at Scotty’s Little Soldiers. One of the ways I’ve learned to cope has been through community and talking about my grief, and I couldn’t be more grateful and relieved that you have amazing people walking beside you throughout your journey. We all know some days are harder than others, but together those days are made easier,” he said.
