Prince Harry and Prince William were allegedly not aware that the Queen was planning to make their stepmother Camilla Parker Bowles a queen consort. The monarch's decision reportedly caused a rift among the royal family members.

Prince Harry And Prince William Blindsided By The Queen's Move Confirming Camilla's Future Title

Royal biographer Christopher Andersen spoke with Us Weekly about the royal family to promote his book Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan. According to him, the monarch's decision about the Duchess of Cornwall's future title was "driving a wedge" in the royal family.

"I can tell you right now that the boys were completely blindsided by this," he told the outlet.

He added, "It’s just whether or not they can get over this bad feeling. Then, of course, Queen [Elizabeth II]‘s health and these other considerations are there. I don’t think it helped with the queen announcing that Duchess Camilla will be Queen Consort and that’s another issue."

Andersen believed that Prince Charles "relentlessly" pushed for Camila to gain the title. He was convinced that he needed his spouse's support just like how Prince Philip supported Her Majesty.

"Charles just wore her down on this too. I also think that since the death of Prince Philip, Charles has stepped up his effort to make it clear to the queen that he too needs [a partner]," Andersen claimed. "If he’s going to reign, he’s going to need the support, the kind of support that she got from [her husband]."

According to Daily Mail, Prince William was not part of the decision process about Camilla's future title.

How Did Prince William And Prince Harry React To The Queen's Announcement Confirming Camilla Will Be Queen Consort?

Prince William and Prince Harry have different reactions. Both did not make public statements about it. However, several sources said the Duke of Cambridge supported the Queen's decision. The future king is reportedly "respectful" of the logic of his grandmother's choice.

"His relationship with the Prince of Wales is better than it ever has been. He is not particularly close to his stepmother, but they get on perfectly well and are quite the blended family now," an unnamed source told Daily Mail about Prince William's relationship with Prince Charles and Camilla. "He also respects his grandmother and her judgment more than anything in the world. If it is right for her, then it will be right for him."

Prince Harry has remained mum about the issue. He never issued any statement about the Queen's announcement. Instead, four days after the announcement, he broke his silence by championing his mother Princess Diana's work in fighting AIDS and HIV.

Prince Harry's silence surprised many, especially because he previously said that he and Prince William had a great relationship with Camilla. On his 21st birthday, the Duke of Sussex said, Camilla was not a "wicked stepmother," and they loved her to bits.
