Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s love story was one for the books. Even though the exes’ marriage ended in a divorce, they were still blessed with two children, Prince William and Prince Harry.
Multiple sources revealed that one of the reasons why Prince Charles and Princess Diana divorced was because of the former’s affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.
Prince Charles and Camilla met each other first, and the future king fell in love with the latter. However, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip didn’t approve of their relationship because Camilla was not, reportedly, a virgin.
The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall eventually went their separate ways, and it was during this break that Prince Charles and Princess Diana first met each other. The Prince and Princess of Wales later fell in love, but their marriage was short-lived.
Princess Diana Cheated On Prince Charles First
In Touch Weekly, in its Nov. 22 issue, claimed that Prince Charles suffered the brunt of the public’s anger because his affair with Camilla was heavily publicized in the news. But what the public didn’t know was that Princess Diana was the one who cheated first.
In fact, Princess Diana reportedly cheated on Prince Charles four times throughout the span of their marriage. But even if this was the case, Prince Charles didn’t speak negatively about her ex-husband even after Princess Diana’s death.
Allan Peters, Prince Charles’ former personal protection officer, claimed that he was the one that told the future king that Princess Diana was cheating on him with Barry Mannakee.
“The popular perception is that the Prince of Wales was straying all the way through his marriage, and that is definitely, unequivocally not the case. The first person who strayed was the princess. Charles went back to see Mrs. Parker Bowles after he learned about Diana’s affair with Mannakee,” Peters said.

Peters added that Princess Diana must have acted on impulse after she heard what Prince Philip said. On one occasion, the late royal told Prince Charles that he could go back to Camilla in five years if his marriage to Princess Diana doesn’t work out.
Upon hearing this, the mom of two reportedly became convinced that Prince Charles was already cheating on her with Camilla. As such, she decided to pursue Mannakee secretly.
“In a sense, Charles drove Diana to find comfort in another man’s arms. She betrayed her vows at least four times,” Peters said.
Prince Charles’ Former Protection Officer Allan Peters Confronted Princess Diana
Peters was, reportedly, the first one to notice the changes in Princess Diana’s behavior that’s why he figured that she was having an affair. Since he was working for Prince Charles at the time, he decided to tell his boss what was going on.
Prince Charles’ protection officer reportedly confronted Princess Diana about her relationship with Mannakee, and the late royal initially denied it. But she later confirmed to Peters that his suspicions were correct.
The affair led to Mannakee being assigned elsewhere, and this enraged Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom. According to Peters, Prince Charles noticed Princess Diana’s reaction following Mannakee’s reassignment, but he didn’t understand why she reacted that way.
“The Prince of Wales approached me and said, ‘Why is the princess behaving in the way she is? What on earth is the matter?’ So I said, ‘You’ve got to talk to her.’ And he said, ‘Well, I’ve tried all that, and the only thing that seems to be upsetting her is that Barry Mannakee is going back to uniform, and if she’s that upset, he can stay,’” Peters recounted.
Peters didn’t want Mannakee to return to his post for fear that his affair with Princess Diana would continue. And it was, reportedly, during this moment that Peters told Prince Charles the truth.
Prince Charles confronted Princess Diana about her affair, and she, reportedly, admitted to her indiscretions.

Princess Diana’s Affair Bruised Prince Charles’ Ego
The source said that Prince Charles decided to keep the news about Princess Diana’s affair a secret. However, it wasn’t because he still loved her but because it damaged his ego and triggered his insecurities.
“He was young and insecure. Times were different, and he felt emasculated that it didn’t look good for the future king’s wife to be two-timing him with her bodyguard. It damaged his ego, also, because Diana was so popular, and he would’ve looked petty,” an unnamed source claimed.
Mannakee died in a motorcycle accident in 1987, and the publication suggested that there might have been foul play. Princess Diana, on the other hand, died in 1997 following a tragic car crash.
As of late, there are still some conspiracy theories claiming that Princess Diana was killed by Prince Charles because of her affair with Dodi Al-Fayed. However, this has never been proven.
According to The Guardian, police interviewed Prince Charles shortly after the accident and amid claims that he was the one that plotted his ex-wife’s accident.
Princess Diana also, reportedly, had relationships with James Hewitt, James Gilbey, and Oliver Hoare, while she was still married to Prince Charles, according to Harper’s Bazaar.
Unfortunately, Princess Diana is no longer around to confirm or deny all that’s being said about her and her marriage to Prince Charles.
