Prince Charles has been the longest Prince of Wales. He has spent most of his life preparing for his role as the next King of monarchy, so it is very unlikely that he will abdicate the throne and give way to his son, Prince William, according to a royal expert.

Prince Charles Not Giving Way To Prince William But Will Be The Best Monarch

Prince Charles will take over the throne despite the majority preferring Prince William over him. The Prince of Wales has spent 70 years waiting for his turn, and he will not give it a pass.

"I think there is very, very little chance that it would happen, constitutional Monarchy means our Monarchy is based on hereditary and if you start deciding that you should abdicate for somebody else then you lose the logic, I mean of keeping it within the family," royal biographer Penny Junor said on Podcast Royal (via Express). "I think it is inconceivable that he [Charles] would pass it along."

The Charles author also noted Prince Charles' years of experience. He also has the longest time to prepare for the role, which only means that he will probably perform better.

"As you say, he has been preparing it for a very long time, he would be the best-prepared Monarch this country has ever had," Junor continued. "The only way, the only circumstance that I could see a change to that if, at the time of the Queen’s death, he was for whatever reason so unpopular, the public really didn’t want him but I think that is very, very unlikely."

Prince Charles Will Be A Different Monarch And Will Not Reign As Long As The Queen

Jonathan Sacerdoti spoke with Express and shared his thoughts about the duke's leadership as the future monarch. He believed that he would have a different approach compared to the Queen and to the Duke of Cambridge.

"I don't think there's a strong argument for it and I think that Prince Charles will be a different kind of monarch to his mother and William will be a different kind of monarch to his father and grandmother," he said.

Aside from their different leadership, Sacerdoti believed that Prince Charles' reign wouldn't be that long. The Prince of Wales is already 73 years old. There is no way that he will reign as long as his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who is celebrating her 70-year of service this year. The Queen's Platinum Jubilee is one of the biggest events for the royal family in 2022.

"I think there is no chance that Prince Charles will be King for as long as his mother. It's just statistically and mathematically impossible," Sacerdoti continued.

Since Prince Charles is already old and is likely to have a short reign, Sacerdoti doesn't see the need to abdicate. Also, the public is expecting him to take over the throne after the Queen.

"I'm sure they must have conversations amongst themselves about the wider agenda of the Royal Family and the short-term aims of it," he added. "They might have already had conversations about where each of them will take the monarchy in."

Prince William has expressed no interest in taking over the throne before his father, according to royal biographer Gill Knappett.
