Prince Charles continues to gain attention after he has taken additional responsibilities in recent years as Queen Elizabeth begins to slow down due to her advanced age. The husband of Camilla Parker-Bowles is the eldest son of Her Majesty and the late Prince Philip, and heir to the throne.

While many followers are thrilled to have Prince Charles as the monarch, some are allegedly having second thoughts after learning that he considers restructuring the British monarchy for quite some time. The Prince of Wales is said to be reducing the monarchy to a team of just eight key members – all senior working royals.

While it would have some advantages, a constitutional expert warned Prince Charles over his succession plans. Keep on reading to know more details.

Prince Charles Asked To Rethink Of His Succession Plans

Dr. Robert Morris from the Constitution Unit of University College London talked about the alleged succession plans of Prince Charles. It has long been claimed that the father of Prince William and Prince Harry would favor a “slimmed down” monarchy when he succeeds Queen Elizabeth as the ruler of the British monarchy.

In an interview with Express UK, Robert stated:

“One wonders how far Charles has thought this through really. Because the implications for the visibility of the monarchy and what it can do and the attention it can give to society is a very difficult balance to get right. Charles, I hope, will pause and think very hard about this and take the advice of the Government too.”

The civil servant cited the small Royal Family of Spain for its size to explain why trimming down the British monarchy would be difficult to achieve. For starters, the Spanish royal unit is composed of King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, and their eldest daughter, Princess Leonor.

Dr. Robert Morris further told the publication:

“The Spaniards suffer I think for example because the only active members of the Royal Family are the King and the Queen and the eldest of the daughters, who is now 16. And this is one of the reasons why a lot of Spaniards are pretty cool about the monarchy.”

The expert went on to say that the British Royal Family would likely find it hard to maintain the same level of public engagement should the number of working royals be reduced. Robert shared:

“You can’t do this on a shoestring in terms of the size of the Royal Family. We don’t know what Charles’ plans are in any detail, but it is a very tender aspect of modern monarchy.”

Prince Charles has reportedly been concerned about the royal family’s value for money and whether there are too many working royals. The line of succession on the royal family’s official website showed the 22 highest-ranking members of the British royal family.

Reducing the number of working royals who perform official duties would also mean reducing who the sovereign grant would be funded. Forbes reported that Queen Elizabeth Prince Charles and the rest of the royal family would face an estimated $44.5 million shortfall due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prince Charles has yet to comment on Dr. Robert Morris’ statement. Also, he is yet to respond to the reports saying that he plans to trim down the royal family once he officially becomes the king. So, devoted supporters of Camilla Parker-Bowles husband should take all these unverified reports lightly until everything is proven true and correct.
