Prince Charles will be taking over the throne after Queen Elizabeth II. He has known about his future role in the monarchy since he was a child. However, despite his decades of preparation, he dreads the day for a poignant reason.
Prince Charles Terrified Of The Day He Becomes King
The Prince of Wales will probably be the best monarch because he has the longest time to prepare. He has seven decades of witnessing how his mother lead the monarchy and years of experience.
But for some reason, he is not ready for the day of ascension because, by the time he gets the top job, he will also be losing a significant person in his life.

"This is a moment that he [Charles] has been dreading all his life really because his achieving the top job, the job he’s been training for and preparing for all these years does inevitably means the death of his mother and he loves his mother very dearly," royal biographer Penny Junor claimed. "So it’s going to be a very vicious week, moment and I think that I am sure that he is pretty terrified of the whole prospect."
The Charles: Victim or Villain author added that the Prince of Wales is a "very emotional man and a sensitive man." When his father, Prince Philip, passed away last year, he took it very badly. Junor believed the duke will have a hard time when Her Majesty dies.
"He takes the death of any loved one to heart and I think it would be, it’s devastating for him as it is for anyone who loses a much-loved mother," she added.

Prince Charles And The Monarchy After Queen Elizabeth II
There are various speculations about the future of the monarchy after Queen Elizabeth II. Many believe that the institution still stands because the public supports the Queen. Thus, its future after Her Majesty seems questionable for some.
"The monarchy and the queen are synonymous for most people," Graham Smith, chief executive of anti-monarchy group Republic, told Reuters (via Express). "Once we're past the end of the Queen's reign, all bets are off as to where public opinion is going to go."

Meanwhile, YouGov's poll showed that the majority of Britons prefer to keep the monarchy. However, the rate of the younger adults between 18 and 24 favoring the monarchy has reduced. About 42 percent of them wants to keep the kings and queen, while 34 percent prefers to have elected officials as the head of state.
Many also prefer Prince William to take over the throne after Queen Elizabeth II. However, that is unlikely to happen.

Junor also believed that Prince Charles is unlikely to abdicate the throne for his son. She added that the Prince of Wales might be the best monarch because he has prepared well for the role.
