With the show’s premiere just over a month away, the new Pokemon anime shared new teasers, including a never-before-seen Pokeball. The show also revealed a new visual along with more info on its male protagonist.

Every new Pokemon anime is special, given that it sees the main cast explore a new region.

But this new Pokemon series promises to be the biggest game-changer in the long-running franchise as it sees Ash Ketchum retire.

"Retire" may not be the most accurate word, but the fact that Ash Ketchum will no longer be the protagonist of the anime moving forward is a big deal.

Sure, Ash’s mysterious ability to stay the same age over decades may never be fully explained, but it’s a huge deal for such an iconic character to stop being the show’s protagonist.

Though now is the perfect time for his “retirement” as Ash has finally achieved his goal of becoming the best Pokemon master when he emerged victorious in the World Championships a few months ago.

Moving forward, the new Pokemon anime will follow two new characters: Riko and Roy.

Previously, info about Riko was revealed. Now, it’s Roy’s turn to get more details.

In his character sheet, Roy is a young kid with a casual outfit, including a black-and-white cap. Though the character art also shows his hair without a cap.

Aside from his look, there’s not a lot of info yet about his history and his goals in the series.

However, a mysterious new Pokeball was teased beside his official artwork.

It’s not exactly clear if this new Pokeball is owned by Roy, though it’s implied in the new image that the Pokeball has at least some connection to the character.

This makes sense given how it was revealed previously that Riko owns a special pendant. But for now, we can only speculate what these items will be.

What we can say for certain is that the upcoming Pokemon anime will be set in the new region of Paldea that was introduced in Pokemon: Scarlet & Violet. The game’s three starter Pokemon will also be featured in the anime.

The upcoming Pokemon anime will begin airing in Japan on April 14, 2023.

Currently, there’s no word yet on where the series will be streamed in English outside Japan.
