It's been a number of months since Johnny Depp triumphed over his ex-wife Amber Heard in the highly publicized defamation trial and as the actor is slowly getting his life and career back together, the question on every fan's mind is whether or not he'll get rehired by Disney to play Captain Jack Sparrow again in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Since Depp's departure from the franchise, the House of Mouse has been developing a female-led project that was supposedly going to be top-billed by Margot Robbie. However, the actress previously claimed that Disney gave up on the project.

Now, in case you weren't aware, it turns out that Robbie's film won't be a reboot after all and producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that apart from the aforementioned spinoff, a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film is still in active development.

In an interview with Deadline, Bruckheimer shared his hopes for Depp to eventually find his way back to the franchise. Giving the actor nothing but praise, the Top Gun: Maverick producer said: "He’s just so good at what he does and actors recover from things like this. He’s a good individual and he’s a caring individual. He’s somebody that you can rely on and he’s just terrific. I think Johnny is an utter friend and an amazing artist and, again, you go through things in life you wish you hadn’t, but he’s still a talented artist."

It's worth mentioning that last December, Bruckheimer already hinted that Depp would reprise his role in Pirates of the Caribbean 6, saying that they're taking "little baby steps" as the project is getting developed. As it stands, Disney has yet to confirm if the actor will actually return but I think we can all agree that it's the most logical move.

Every film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is available to stream on Disney+.
