It looks like the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot is still moving forward. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has just shared an update on the upcoming Disney project and he confirmed that Pirates of the Caribbean 6, which will be led by Margot Robbie, is still in development. In addition to that, Bruckheimer confirmed that another movie is being planned!
Jerry Bruckheimer is currently promoting Top Gun: Maverick but he also spoke about his upcoming projects like the next Pirates of the Caribbean film. When asked whether the reboot is still moving forward, Bruckheimer responded, "Yes. We’re talking to Margot Robbie."
It's an interesting response considering that previous reports have already confirmed that Margot Robbie has signed on for Pirates of the Caribbean 6. However, there is a possibility that the deal has fallen apart or Robbie might be asking for a better deal.
That's not the only new update from Jerry Bruckheimer on the franchise. He also confirmed that "we are developing two Pirates scripts — one with her, one without."
Interestingly, it sounds like there will be more Pirates of the Caribbean projects in the future and the franchise could continue after Margot Robbie's movie. But what could the other film possibly be about? Most fans are hoping that it would involve Johnny Depp's return.
We already know that Johnny Depp was removed from Pirates of the Caribbean 6 and the Jack Sparrow actor even stated that he is no longer interested in returning to the franchise. However, there have been petitions begging Disney to reinstate Depp in the sixth Pirates film. Is it possible that the second Pirates script could bring back Captain Jack Sparrow? It seems unlikely at the moment but fans are not giving up on hope.
For now, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
