Pierce Brosnan tried his luck to play the Caped Crusader. He admitted that he didn't get the job because he blew off his Batman audition with a joke to director Tim Burton.

Pierce Brosnan Shares How He Fails His Batman Audition To Tim Burton

Brosnan is joining the DC Universe as Doctor Fate in Black Adam, starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. When he appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actor opened up that he was rarely offered a superhero role. He then recounted his audition for Tim Burton's 1989 Batman and how a "stupid" joke cost him the role.

"It was the last thing on my mind to be playing a superhero like Doctor Fate," Brosnan said. "No, not really no. I mean, I went up for 'Batman' way back in the day when Tim Burton was doing it. Obviously, I didn't get the job."

He continued, "I remember saying something stupid to Tim Burton, I said, 'You know I can't understand any man who would wear his underpants outside his trousers.' But there you go…the best man got the job, and you know Doctor Fate and I were meant to meet on the same page I think."

Michael Keaton got the role. Keaton and Burton teamed up again for Batman Returns. He reprised the character in Warner Bros. Batgirl, which will no longer be released and in The Flash, which will hit theaters on June 23, 2023, Variety reported.

Pierce Brosnan On Black Adam

Brosnan plays the character of Doctor Fate in Johnson's superhero flick, Black Adam. A short clip featured him with Hawkman while discussing their plans.

He advised Hawkman to just let it go because a bad one is better than having none at all and that he should rather join Black Adam than fight him.

Hawkman became suspicious of Doctor Fate because he was aware that the helmet could give the latter an insight into the future. He also asks Doctor Fate if someone will die and if it's Atom Smasher, but Doctor Fate assures him that it isn't the case.

The still suspicious Hawkman speculates that the one dying could be him or Doctor Fate, but the latter is not giving up hope as he knows the future isn't fixed and could still be changed. Also, they still have enough time to do it.

Black Adam will hit theaters on Oct. 21, 2022.
