Peter Jackson Explains the Changes in the 4K Remaster of The Lord of the Rings

December is a big month for Tolkien fans as it sees the release of the 4K remaster of both The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. That being said, there is some promotion going around for the new release, and director Peter Jackson has released a video breaking down the changes that have come to LOTR in 4K.

While people pretty much regard the LOTR trilogy as a perfect piece of cinema, it's kind of interesting how Jackson still sees the imperfections on a technical level, what with the change in cameras and differences in color. With both The Hobbit and LOTR having aged quite a bit since release, Jackson explains how he's using new tech for the remaster to make the look of all the films more consistent—not just sharpening images for the 4K quality.

Though no Rings movies are in the works now, Amazon Prime Video is set to release a full series soon. What's interesting is, the story will take place in the Second Age, during the creation of the Rings of Power, and while we don't have any details, we can bet that Sauron will still be a central figure in the show.

No release date has been set for Amazon's Lord of the Rings, but The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies are now available on 4K UHD and Blu-Ray.
