Percy Jackson Reboot Casts The Adam Project Star in Lead Role

Percy Jackson is trending once again on Twitter and this time, it's for a very good reason. The upcoming Disney+ reboot has just announced that The Adam Project star Walker Scobell will take on the lead role in the highly anticipated series!

Creator Rick Riordan dropped the news in the latest blog entry on his website. The Lightning Thief author introduces Walker Scobell as the new Percy Jackson and even shares some delightful details on how the young actor reacted to being cast in the highly coveted role.

Interestingly, Riordan revealed that they already had their eye on Walker Scobell before they saw his performance in Ryan Reynolds' The Adam Project.

"We were fortunate enough to audition Walker months before that movie came out, but the film only confirmed what we already knew about his talent," Riordan wrote. "It was obvious to me and the rest of the team that Walker had the perfect mix of comedic timing, sweetness, rebelliousness, snark and heroism to embody our hero Percy Jackson."

The writer also revealed that Scobell is a huge fan of the books and even wore a Camp Half-Blood T-shirt when the casting was confirmed. "He had no idea I was going to be on this Zoom call. He didn’t know the call was to tell him he got the part. The shirt was just him repping his love for the series, and that look of surprise is totally genuine," Riordan wrote.

But how about Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood? Riordan confirmed that Scobell has been helping them cast his co-stars. "We’ve gotten to see Walker do numerous chemistry reads with candidates for our other two leads, Annabeth and Grover, and while I’m confident those two roles are getting very close to being finalized and announced, I felt like the time was right to let you meet our Percy!" he wrote.

It's certainly great news and there is little doubt that Scobell will do an excellent job at bringing Percy Jackson back to life. Needless to say, we'll be waiting for new updates very soon.
