People are Signing a Petition to Keep James Corden Off Wicked Movie

With the announcement of Wicked’s premiere date and the cast to play Elphaba and Glinda are already confirmed, many people are thinking ahead and making a petition to not include James Corden into the highly anticipated movie adaptation. The petition was created because Corden is in no way shape or form to be in this exciting movie adaptation.

The said petition has already signed more than 60,000 signatures.

Corden is a notable TV personality. Not only he is one of the memorable hosts for the Tony Awards, he is also known to be in notable musical adaptations such as Cats, Into The Woods, Cinderella, and The Prom. It’s understandable why many people do not want him in Wicked as the movie project has been planned and announced for years and having Corden in the cast feels like it’s breaking the movie adaptation’s momentum.

It was recently announced that Cynthia Erivo and Arina Grande will be playing Elphaba and Glinda respectively. Each confirmed their casting on their respective Instagram accounts according to a report by Variety.

Rumors of Ariana Grande being part of the Wicked movie have already been circulated for years. She performed a pop version of Glinda’s song Popular together with singer MIKA, which was released in 2013.

Wicked premiered at the Gershwin Theatre in New York in October 2003. The first Elphaba and Glinda on Broadway were Idina Menzel (Rent, If/Then, Frozen) and Kristin Chenoweth (You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, On the Twentieth Century Revival). Menzel won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her role as Elphaba.

Universal will produce Wicked and is slated to premiere in theaters in June 2022. The film will be directed by Jon M. Chu, who also directed the movie adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical In The Heights.
