The new global Battle.net update merges friends list from different territories, making the Cross-Play beta possible.

To enable Overwatch's Cross-Play, players can log in to their Battle.net account and link the appropriate console accounts (PSN, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch Online). As a limited-time bonus, those who log in to Battle.net to enable Cross-Play by December 31, 2021, will get a free Golden Loot Box.

Having Cross-Play means friends who play on the PlayStation can team-up with people using Xbox, PC, or the Nintendo Switch. The addition of Cross-Play in Overwatch could increase its player base significantly.

This could be a good time to jump in the game with your friends since it looks like players will have to wait for at least a year before the release of Overwatch 2, which will include new modes like a PvE story mode.

Overwatch 2 is expected to release in 2022, but Blizzard hasn't announced an official release date yet. One of the major changes coming with the release of the sequel is the change of PvP from 6v6 to 5v5.
