Original Mulan Ming-Na Wen Shares Make-Up Test for Her Small Cameo

[SLIGHT SPOILERS FOR DISNEY'S LIVE-ACTION MULAN]

Disney's live-action adaptation of Mulan had come out last weekend, and if anything, it has only ignited a more fierce love for the original. What's interesting is, the movie actually as a small cameo from the original Mulan voice actress Ming-Na Wen, and Wen shares this make-up test that she did when she shot her part.

Check it out:

While her look in the final film is different, this one feels closer to Mulan's make-up when she visits the matchmaker, from the red ribbon to the flower in her hair. Even the colors chosen for her outfit resemble that of Mulan's casual green attire.

I have to say, it was a real surprise when Wen appeared in the film. She admittedly looks amazing at her age of 56, and a lot of people were saying she could still play the part of Mulan before Liu Yifei was cast.

Like a lot of critics, I thought that the live-action Mulan was kind of a let-down. I was willing to open my mind to the film even after they cut the songs and some characters, but the core message of Mulan getting ahead because of her perseverance and intelligence is lost. Instead, we get a story that gives her a huge amount of Chi, and Mulan is forced to hide her kung-fu abilities because she's a woman. Not every Disney princess has to be Elsa, Disney.

Catch Mulan now available in select theaters and Disney+.
