Only Murders in the Building Season 2 finale has left fans with a lot of questions after the death of the new murder victim, Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd). Thankfully, co-creator John Hoffman gamely gives some intel about Only Murders in the Building Season 3 and what fans can expect.

Ben fell to his death on the opening night of Oliver’s (Martin Short) play. As the series now has a new murder to solve, what’s next in Only Murders in the Building Season 3?

Only Murders in the Building Season 3 to Center on Oliver

In an interview with Variety, Hoffman revealed the new season’s emotional arc would mostly focus on Oliver.

He also discussed the trio’s, Oliver, Charles (Steve Martin), and Mabel (Selena Gomez), success, and if they’re really destined to be followed by death.

He said,

“In Season 3, we’re obviously making a leap into the theater, and around Oliver being a little bit more central in the emotional arc. It’s his Broadway return, and that tethers out for all of them into a question of success — at what cost? What happens at the end of Season 2 begs the question: Are these three people cursed to forever have death around them?”

He continued,

“And we’re just four weeks into our writers’ room for Season 3, but there are lovely romantic possibilities happening that ask certain questions. Are you able to commit, or should you be committed? The idea of commitment making you crazy.”

Who Killed Ben?

Of course, the number one question Only Murders in the Building Season 3 has to answer is who killed Ben?

Charles warned Ben to stay away from someone he called “her.” So, who is this her who’s he referring to?

Hoffman told TVLine,

“Oh, I would love to tell you that. I really would love to tell you that. But I also like that question being posed in the minds of viewers in between Seasons 2 and 3. I would just say this: It is definitely a question that we asked ourselves, and we sprang forward with a very definite answer.”

Alice (Cara Delevingne) was also missing when Mabel sat with Oliver, Lucy (Zoe Margaret Colletti) and Joy (Andrea Martin). So, what does it mean?

Hoffman explained,

“Alice’s storyline [resolved itself] in a rather sweet way, with the beginning of a reparation in that friendship [with Mabel]. I like the chumminess that’s there. But I don’t think we’re aiming towards any more of a love relationship.”

Will the Trio Help the Investigation in Only Murders in the Building Season 3?

Charles, Oliver, and Mabel’s names are now cleared after Becky (Rose Cooper) came out as Bunny’s (Jayne Houdyshell) killer.

As they have become heroes, will they help investigate Ben’s killing in Only Murders in the Building Season 3?

Hoffman revealed,

“It would be a situation where it’s called upon them [to help], now that they’ve been successful. There will definitely be a need that is felt. Emotionally, the pull back to each other certainly feels right, but there are a lot of things going on in their lives that will be in conflict with that. Season 3 is dealing with a lot that has changed in the past year.”
