One Piece Live Action Show Latest News & Update: Netflix Announces Straw Hat Cast Members

After years of delays, there is finally some progress on the Netflix-ordered live-action adaptation to the beloved manga and anime franchise "One Piece." Netflix just announced the five key cast members that will be playing the franchise's main characters, Monkey D. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Nami, Sanji, and everyone's favorite Usopp.

Confirmed Straw Hat Pirates Cast Members

The Straw Hat crew will be played by relatively new but experienced actors. Luffy will be played by Mexican-born actor Iñaki Godoy. "Rurouni Kenshin: Final Chapter" actor Mackenyu will play Zoro, while "Fear Street" actress Emily Rudd will play Nami. "Greenleaf" actor Jacob Romero Gibson will play Usopp, while "Boiling Point" actor Taz Skylar will play Sanji.

"One Piece" is based on the famous Japanese manga of the same name and follows Luffy, a young man, on a quest to become the pirate king and discover the legendary "One Piece" treasure. Netflix ordered 10 episodes of the show back in January.

The franchise currently has one of the longest-running mangas in Japan, with over 1,000 chapters. The franchise also has an anime series with 20 seasons as well as 14 animated features.

'One Piece' Series Updates And Release Date

Apart from unveiling the cast members of the live-action "One Piece" television series, Netflix also shares some updates of the development of the series, stating that it is progressing well. Apart from that, the streaming platform did not share much information.

Netflix also shared a note from "One Piece" creator Eiichiro Oda, who said that they are working hard in making the series. Oda did not say anything about a release date for the "One Piece" live-action series, but he did say that it will likely "take a bit more time" to complete it.

In recent years, Netflix has been putting a lot of money on live-action remakes of successful anime and manga franchises. Apart from giving updates on the "One Piece" live-action series, Netflix also announced Tuesday that it is developing a live-action adaptation for the popular anime "Yu Yu Hakusho," which it says would likely begin production in 2023.

The company also introduced some of the cast members for its upcoming "Avatar: The Last Airbender" live-action adaptation, as well as updates on the live-action "Cowboy Bebop" adaptation, which will debut, is on Nov. 19.

Who Is Iñaki Godoy?

The actor that will be playing Luffy in the upcoming "One Piece" live-action adaptation is no stranger to television and movies. The 18-year-old Mexican actor began his career in the movie industry when he was just 18 years old.

Godoy has starred in multiple television series in his home country and abroad, in titles such as "La querida del Centauro," "Sin miedo a la verdad," and "Who Killed Sara?"
