Olivia Wilde and her boyfriend and Don't Worry Darling star Harry Styles attended the press conference for their movie at the Venice Film Festival. However, his co-star and onscreen partner, Florence Pugh, who was rumored to be having a falling-out with the director and his girlfriend, did not join them at the event. Olivia Wilde Addressed Feuding Rumors Against Don't Worry Darling Actress Florence Pugh
Wilde broke her silence about the alleged tension between her and Pugh. The latter was not able to join the Venice press conference because she was still filming the Dune sequel and would not land in Venice until after the conference. However, another source told People it had always been the plan suggesting that her skipping the press conference was intentional.
Despite the various reports about the alleged feud, Harry Styles' girlfriend dismissed the claims she had a falling-out with Pugh. Wilde even showered the actress with praises.
"Florence is a force. We are so grateful she's able to make it tonight [for the red carpet] despite being in production on Dune," she said, Variety reported. "I know, as a director, how disruptive it is to lose an actor even for a day, so I'm very grateful to her, and to ['Dune' director Denis Villeneuve] for helping us. And we'll get to celebrate her work tonight. I can't say how honored I am to have her as our lead. She's amazing."
She added, "As for all the endless tabloid gossip and all the noise out there, the Internet feeds itself. I don't feel the need to contribute; I think it's sufficiently well-nourished."
It wasn't the first time Wilde denied that she's on bad terms with Pugh. In a previous interview with Variety, she also said that "tabloid media is a tool to pit women against one another and to shame them."
"There has been a lot out there that I largely don't pay attention to. But the absurdity of invented clickbait and subsequent reaction regarding a nonexistent pay disparity between our lead and supporting actors really upset me," she said about the rumor. "I'm a woman who has been in this business for over 20 years, and it's something that I have fought for myself and others, especially being a director. There is absolutely no validity to those claims."
How Did Olivia Wilde And Florence Pugh's Falling-Out Rumor Start?
The netizens noticed that Pugh didn't share the trailers of Don't Worry Darling on her social media accounts. She also didn't "like" a post that Wilde shared, including the film's full trailer.
Wilde even posted a photo of Pugh and, in the caption, praised the actress. "Watching this woman work was such a f–king thrill! Cannot wait to show you more. @florencepugh@dontworrydarling," Wilde wrote.
However, the Black Widow actress did not respond. Instead, she shared a teaser trailer of her other movie project, Oppenheimer, Page Six reported.
An insider spoke with the outlet and claimed that Pugh was not supportive of Wilde and Harry Styles' romance as it allegedly started when the actress-director was still with her ex Jason Sudeikis.
"I can tell you for a fact that Flo seeing Olivia and Harry all over each other on set did not go down well as Olivia was still with Jason when she first hooked up with Harry," an anonymous tipster told the outlet.
"Jason and the kids visited Olivia on set at the beginning a few times, so I think this all made people feel a little uncomfortable," the insider added.
Pugh has not commented on the issue.
Don't Worry Darling will premiere on Sept. 23.
