It looks like the Obi Wan series will be coming out in early 2022. Ewan McGregor revealed in an interview on the Graham Norton Show that filming for the project will begin in March 2021. So the question becomes, what is the most likely release date for the Obi Wan series on Disney+?

Looking at other Star Wars projects, The Mandalorian Season 2 began filming on Oct 7 2019, and finished nearly 6 months later in March 2020. The series was released in October 2020. It is worth noting that filming concluded largely before Covid-19 restrictions came into place.

If we applied the same logic to the Obi Wan series, we can expect filming to finish by September 2021 and a release date of March 2022.

Will the Obi Wan series be released in 2021?

No. Given filming won't begin until March 2021 and a time frame of 6 months, it is impossible to finish post-production and be released in the same year. Especially given additional restrictions caused by Covid-19.

Most likely. Given the information above, we would expect it to release sometime between March and May 2021, although unforeseen delays could always push the show further back.

Where can I watch the Obi Wan series?

The Obi Wan series will debut exclusively on Disney+, just like The Mandalorian. Obi Wan will not be released in movie theaters, Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, Apple TV, or any other streaming service.

The Obi Wan series director is Deborah Chow, who has worked on the acclaimed shows, The Mandalorian, Better Caul Saul, American Gods, and Mr. Robot. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said, "We really wanted to select a director who is able to explore both the quiet determination and rich mystique of Obi-Wan in a way that folds seamlessly into the Star Wars saga. Based on her phenomenal work developing our characters in The Mandalorian, I'm absolutely confident Deborah is the right director to tell this story."

Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christiansen will be reprising their roles as Obi Wan and Anakin Skywalker in the series. The Obi Wan timeline will take place 10 years after the end of Revenge of the Sith, when Obi-Wan was humiliated in defeat against Obi-Wan Kenobi. This marked the end of Anakin Skywalker, and the beginnings of Darth Vader.
