Obi-Wan Kenobi: Major Cameo Actor Breaks Silence on ‘Star Wars’ Return

The latest Disney+ Star Wars series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, gave a lot of fans one last thrill at the finale of the show in the form of a major cameo return by Liam Neeson, as Obi-Wan Kenobi’s (Ewan McGregor) Jedi master, Qui-Gon Jinn. Qui-Gon was one of the first Jedi to achieve transcending death as a Force ghost, and he is now finally able to communicate with his former student on the desert sands of Tatooine.

After the release of the finale of the show, a lot of fans have been celebrating the return of Liam Neeson, but some fans are also damning the actor’s name as Neeson outright lied about being involved in the series. The actor now breaks his silence regarding his cameo in the finale of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

"I certainly didn't want anyone else playing Qui-Gon Jinn, and I wanted to show my respect for George [Lucas] and that mythical world that he created," Neeson explained during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "Plus, Ewan [McGregor] is a pal, and I loved working with him during The Phantom Menace 25 years ago."

Liam Neeson’s character, Qui-Gon Jinn, was only featured in one live-action Star Wars film, The Phantom Menace, released back in 1999. Even though he died in that movie, the end of the Star Wars Prequels, Revenge of the Sith back in 2005, offered fans hope that Qui-Gon would one day return as a Force Ghost, after Yoda told Obi-Wan that he had communed with their dead friend (an arc scene in the Clone Wars series). A lot of long-time Star Wars fans have been waiting for a long time to see Neeson’s face back in the Star Wars franchise.

Neeson’s Obi-Wan cameo is not the end of his Star Wars return. It has been confirmed that he has already been signed to do voice work for the upcoming Star Wars animated anthology titled, Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi. Neeson will be voicing the Qui-Gon role with his son, who will voice a younger version of Qui-Gon.

Episodes 1 through 6 of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi are available to stream on Disney+.
