Why Did Obi-Wan Let Darth Vader Go?

The battle between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader was the most emotional we've seen since the prequels - a fighting sequence that is reminiscent of their encounter in Mustafar 10 years ago.

In this epic battle, Obi-Wan, who had trouble reaching the Force throughout the mini-series, finally regains his connection to it, showing unseen-before power.

Darth Vader's attempt to bury him under stones isn't enough to stop Obi-Wan, who goes on to destroy much of Darth Vader's mechanical body.

For those who haven't watched the animated Star Wars series, it might be their first time seeing Darth Vader's mask broken with part of Anakin's face showing.

This along with the merge of their voices made it really sink in that Anakin and Vader are the same person.

Obi-Wan apparently also finally accepted that, believing his old friend and student to be truly gone. It is at that point that Vader says it is himself, rather than Obi-Wan who killed Anakin Skywalker - which likely gave Obi-Wan a story to tell Luke about his father's identity.

Why then, did Obi-Wan make the same mistake and leave Vader when he might have killed him?

It might be that Obi-Wan's honor code did not allow him to keep fighting against someone who couldn't fight back. It does, however, feel a little strange that he'd spare his friend-turned-enemy a second time.

It is not entirely clear if Obi-Wan chose to spare Vader out of pity or mercy, but it seems that choosing to walk away from that battle sets Obi-Wan free with his morality intact.

Reva's Plan Explained

After failing to kill Vader in revenge for her fallen friends, Reva nevertheless survived that attack. Having found information related to Vader's children, she goes to Tatooine, intending to kill Luke instead.

However, her struggle with Luke's uncle and aunt and her hunt for Luke turns out to be futile as she can't bring herself to do to the boy what Vader did to her friends.

Like Obi-Wan, Reva is now set free to pursue a better path. Hopefully, Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 will give us more information on that path!

Little is known about the potential second season of the mini-series, but it looks like Obi-Wan, having reconnected with the Force, will try to do some good in the galaxy.

Another encounter with Vader would be unlikely to be plausible, as it wouldn't be easy to keep explaining repeated encounters in which neither of the two ends up dead.

A theory could be that Obi-Wan will, at some point, fake his death, as by Episode 6 it's apparent that the dark side doesn't believe him to be alive until he actually makes an appearance.

For the time being, we can only theorize about the future of the series, but hopefully, we'll have more information to share very soon!
