Given the phenomenal popularity of Leigh Bardugo's bestselling novel for adults, the decision to develop a Ninth House TV series was not unexpected.

Recently, Collider interviewed the author about the Ninth House sequel, Hell Bound. Bardugo revealed that while she was heavily involved in Season 1 of Shadow and Bone, "I made a deal with myself that if we got a second season, I was going to take a step back from the adaptation process and be a little bit less hands-on." She continued by saying that working on the Ninth House series "renewed my feeling of excitement about this series."

What’s Known So Far About Ninth House TV Series

Little details are known about the Ninth House TV series. The protagonist of the novel is Alex Stern, a freshman at Yale University. Alex, who is unconventional and intrinsically an outsider amid the wealthy and snobbish elite, possesses a unique ability: she can see ghosts.

Alex must traverse a perilous world of magic, deceitful rich kids, and the constant threat of the haunting dead after entering the occult realm of Yale's secret organizations.

As a Yale alumna and part of a secret society, Bardugo draws on some of her own experiences for Ninth House. She will also serve as an executive producer for the Amazon Studios-produced series adaptation. New Leaf's head of film & television, Pouya Shahbazian, famed for her work on the Divergent series, will work with the author.

Ninth House Pilot Confirmed

When asked about the status of the Ninth House TV series, she responded, “...I can't even talk about who I've been working on the project with. But I can tell you that we have a pilot that I absolutely love and that it has been a complete delight to work on. Unlike with Shadow and Bone, I actually got to get in there and work on the writing, break the story, and deal with notes in a much more hands-on way. And I loved it. And I also feel like it made me twice as excited to write Hell Bent because it made me think of the story in different ways. And that, I think, is a pleasure.”
