Nintendo Shocks Fans With Breath of the Wild Prequel Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

It looks like Nintendo is doing that thing where they announce a big-name game out of nowhere again. Earlier this year, it announced Paper Mario and the Origami King a month or two away from release without any pre-announcement hype, and now they're doing it for a new Hyrule Warriors game. Rather than be a fanservice game, however, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which is making fans go crazy.

As the opening paragraph has stated, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is a prequel to Breath of the Wild, set 100 years before Link woke up to fight Ganon again. We'll actually get to see Link interact with Zelda and the other champions who died during this war, only briefly appearing in Breath of the Wild as spirits and in flashbacks. There's a lot of incentive to play this for fans of The Legend of Zelda so expect this to sell well.

This also looks more interesting than the original Hyrule Warriors story-wise. While the original Hyrule Warriors was a fanservice game that let you play as your favorite Zelda characters and kill a bunch of enemies, this will actually detail how the Champions in Breath of the Wild fell, along with how Link managed to live through this.

With a graphics engine fairly similar to Breath of the Wild and that signature Dynasty Warriors gameplay, it looks like Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is going to be one hell of a good time. The game will be coming to Nintendo Switch on November 10 so try and reserve your copy now, though not before Super Mario 3D All-Stars.
