Nintendo Issues Statement Addressing Smash Bros Players' Sexual Assault Allegations

Nintendo has finally issued a statement addressing the recent allegations of sexual assault within the Super Smash Bros online community.

The statement was published by IGN and it confirms that Nintendo is standing with the victims, who have been revealed to be mostly minors.

"At Nintendo, we are deeply disturbed by the allegations raised against certain members of the competitive gaming community. They are absolutely impermissible. We want to make it clear that we condemn all acts of violence, harassment, and exploitation against anyone and that we stand with the victims," the statement reads.

Nintendo issued the statement shortly after it was confirmed that Evo Online has been cancelled. In addition to that, Evo announced that they are cutting ties with Evo president Joey Cuellar.

"Over the past 24 hours, in response to serious allegations recently made public on Twitter, we have made the first of a series of important decisions regarding the future of our company. Effective immediately, Joey Cuellar will no longer be involved with Evo in any capacity. We are currently working towards his complete separation from the company and have relieved him of all his responsibilities," the statement from Evo read.

Evo has also confirmed that Tony Cannon will act as CEO effective immediately.

Several Smash Bros players including Keitaro, D1, Nairo, and Cinnpie have been accused of sexual assault by victims who shared their stories on social media. Unfortunately, this is only part of the ongoing discussion regarding sexism and harassment in the gaming industry. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
